To be honest if we are under the cap by between 500k to 1million k which is what has been mentioned, I would be offering Champion a 3 year contract for between $600k and 750K and Houston a 3 year contraft for $200 with the 2nd and 3rd in our favour ( eg we can sack him after the first year if we want) - These two players are future rep players and are still young. Good opportunity to get a few young players at good value. We would still have have money to sign a half for 2012

So Souths want Greg Inglis, but dont really have the cap to fit him. The Storm have Greg Inglis, but dont really want him and also cant afford him under the cap either. So, as a result Souths plan to have Inglis but are now between a rock and a hard place and need to offload some players to get Inglis.....So, they're initial players they have offered up for negotiation (Champion & Crocker) appear to be players with quite large back-ended contracts, who arent really worth the money Souths will have to pay them in 2011, so they might as well try and get them off the books. Parra is really the only Club in a position to take them. The Cowboys have been mentioned, but its a big ask to go up there with their results in 2010..... The Raiders probably have some coin, but I think they will wait as long as possible to sign Orford... There is talk Crocker might retire....I really cant see him retiring as his nice back ended contract would be enough incentive to stay around....

It appears Parra are the ones with the best bargaining position....so we will see if something eventuates.... The longer this drags on the more nervous Souths and Melbourne are going to become. If they can offload all three, they might be prepared to pay for some percentage of the contract at the new Club (depending on what they can offload them all for)....Melbourne will be pushing for a result on this ASAP, because as far as I am aware, Inglis is technically being paid by the Storm so is already using up some of their Cap for 2011.....

Should be an interesting week....

The 3rd party agreements can't have anything to do with the club right?

Say Parra takes Champion's contract at 200K and then Russel Crowe or his allegiance sponsors Champion $100k

Are we simply playing hardball and not willing to pick up the discards in order to have a shot at Inglis?

I hope the NRL enforce Melbourne Storm paying the $100k from the 2011 cap for Inglis. I don't like the papers stating that it is a "technicality". That should ensure they can't pick up any more players for 2011, and may even make them shed one.

Yeah, it's a "technicality" that every other f'ing club has to abide by, so they damn well should as well

Given that we chased pretty much every over the hill player on the market, I would have thought we would also show some interest when a couple of decent players became available.

Alas, such luxuries seem non-existent at Parramatta these days.

wow sounds real good, loko better than hayne and co.....could be a master stroke? But if he hasnt played much toyota cup, is this a good idea to thrown him straight in?

Loko literally tore apart the Broncos under 20's on his own. I know this is only one game and its under 20's but he seemed to have superstar written all over him for mine.

When the prospect of Beau Champion came up I immediately thought about you guys and us. Does potentially limit the opportunity for young guys, Loko for you and to a lesser extent Copley for us.

Some of the more experienced guys on this forum that get the opportunity to see lower grades and juniors say Loko is still a year or two off cracking the NRL but i agree mate, Loko for mine looks to be a DEFINITE superstar of the 'near' future. Maybe this year might be too soon but i'd love to see him sooner rather than later.

this is going to bring the spot light on back ended contracts again and imagine that the players that souths are offloading will need to have all their 2011 value covered in somebodys cap, most likely a portion from their new club and the remainder from souths.

By backloading their contracts, souths got their services for the preceeding years cheaper and now have to pay for that service. Clubs can not be expected to cover the inflated price for their 2011 service.

yes, basically we would have to take over the contract, champion needs to be paid out either way however souths may agree to subsidise us to sweeten the deal and make it more attractive, the same with Crocker or any other being shopped around who are currently on deals.

the NRL have souths by short and curlies at the moment, if they want Inglis they're going to have to do some serious juggling and find some willing parties to assist and at the moment Parra, Cowboys and Penrith are the only clubs who are currently under the cap but I would imagine that Parra are in a better bargaining position then the other 2, it may well be worth sitting back and playing hard ball with them, either way something has to give sooner or later.

So it seems that, no matter what happens, we have a fairly strong chance of getting either Inglis or Champion - more likely Champion; unless the Cowboys beat us to him.

Well Champion has signed with the Storm.

Well done Ozzie - another great attempt (or non attempt) at getting another quality player.

Why settle for an up and coming player in a position of glaring need when you can settle for over the hill characters in poistions of lesser needs?

Maybe, just maybe people within our club think a Filiga or a Loko will step up for us this year?

Parra Pride - I don't share your optimism. Why would Filigia(sp) be any different to last year or the years before that at the Sharks? All hype and not much after.

Loko - I have heard much about so I have my fingers crossed.

What perplexes me is they go out and sign Whaturia (sp) for a one year contrcat with the option of another for a cheap price and then not even bother about Champion. Its not as if we dont have the money. By signing Whaturia, it indicates they NEED a centre......yet it seems they are not serious....

I don't understand why you'd blame Ozzie when SK made the call on Champion..

my take on it was that if SK had to make a decision on Champion next year, he would of had to include the 2 years after that for a sum of in excess of 300K per season, because that's what his contract at souths was worth, how do you know that he doesn't intend to use that money on someone else in 2012? in fact it is obvious to me that SK is aiming for a competative side with a a bunch of blokes determined to go out on a high and then launch a serious assault on the player market for the year after and also save that extra funds for possible upgrades to the likes of Loko, Sio and O'Hanlon.

I'll tell you why Filiga could be different to last year, he could go the whole season without injury, train with a fulltime squad and not have a relative who's suffering from a serious illness, those differences alone would make him twice the player he already is and I've been one of his biggest critics..

How did Storm find space to fit champion in LoL signed for next year I see. So the Inglis deal goes thru.
