I haven't got a link or a direct quote but I thought as Dragondad mentioned he was only offered 3 yrs and the Knights gave him 4 and I believe 400k per yr as opposed to 350K from Saints.

i just checked a few old articles from the media and they have quoted 4 years for 1.5m - so 375k a season.

Boyd was always going to follow Bennett

McKinnon is a newcastle boy and was leaving to be with family/girlfriend

Costigan signed for us for 80k, and obviously after a good season wanted an upgrade - we chose to keep other forwards instead. i think from memory he is on about 100k at newcastle - so still not big dollars.

Smith is the interesting one... not sure why we let him leave??? can anyone shed light on this?

To free up salary cap money up for Gasnier .

This thread is typical of the dragons fandom. A departed player has one good game and people lose their collective minds

dont ignore the winning culture a player like Scott brings to a club. Or the fact that Bennett stated "Scott is a player that other players want to play with... they become better players by association"

he brings far more to a club then just his individual performance on the field..
you need guys like Scott, Smith who know how to win, and make other players simply play better by being in the same team,

He'd still be a nuffy player under Price and career almost washed up by now. Bennett can get the best out of Scott, same with Soward and same with Prior. When Scott is good he is great as witnessed last game.

Mr Red I totally agree. :D do the dragons currently have a person / tough / aggressive / mongrel / forward of beau Scotts caliber at the moment. ...

I have noticed over the past years, that 30ish is no death nell for players anymore.

Look at some of the guys going around, at 30 plus. Even forwards. I put this down to sports science, better facilities, and the interchange rule. Players can now play into their mid thirties if well maintained.

I agree re Scott, and Smith. These guys are no non-sense, hard nuts who gel a team. Looking at the game, both of them seem to be enjoying the game as well.

Even Willie Mason has been better than most of our forwards this season..
and he was considered washed up 2 years ago...

Played very well on the weekend but has been injury prone and inconsistent this year.

He's pushing 30. Hard to criticise the club for not looking to the future when they make decisions like that.

We had Beau for his best years and he served us well.

Exactly,Scott's been injured most of the year and he has a blinder on the weekend.
Sure he would have been great to have this year but would have spent most of the year out.

McKinnon is a newcastle boy and was leaving to be with family/girlfriend. the fact Bennett is also coaching there was good for him, but Bennett didnt poach him

Jeremy Smith is the one I miss, who says players can't play when they leave Storm.

Only at the Dragons where it is convenient to use "ageing roster" as an excuse for a poor coach

Jezza Smith is a bigger loss than Beaunhead Scott.

Doust is a smart operator. He lets Scott go and signs Bronson Harrison and Michael Henderson.

Anybody remember Henderson this year? Played a couple of games in first grade and a few for the Cutters and then gave the game away.

Great recruitment Doust & Young. Or can we blame Price as well?

We have lost to many hard,no-nonsense players in recent years.
Players like Costigan,Scott,Smith,Young,Saffy etc can't be replaced overnight and to lose so many within two years or so will obviously effect the team and how they play.
We won a premiership on the back of these blokes and now without them we are soft in the forwards.
Opposition teams don't respect our current pack and just roll over them with ease.
Bad management to let so many quality forwards go to other clubs and shine!

and vice versa...
when some relatively unknown (and untested in NRL) junior has one good game!

But.... it's entertaining.
And grist for the mill.

As far as I recall, Jezza had family in Newie and wanted to be closer to them.
Jeremy smith had a house in Wollongong and kids in school down here. He left so that we could fit Gasnier in under the salary cap who then promptly retired.
