So DUI Bec is the partner of the CEO of the company that pretty much owns rugby league.

Interesting.

No big deal, I was just pointing out to someone who used the All Stars game as an example of the NRL's superiority on matters aboriginal, that AFL had the same sort of game too. On face value the NRL one seems to have been a bigger deal, but its been done once, so lets maybe reserve judgement till its being going a few years and the novelty has worn off.

I never claimed that rugby league was "superior" to AFL in regards to promoting and celebrating the participation and acheivements of Aboriginal players. While not understating the importance of Aboriginal players in either code I'm pretty sure the playing numbers of Indigenous players in both codes are roughly the same. The AFL may have a scratch match involving an ATSI All-Stars team but who do they play against? A single club who probably send out their reserve grade team while resting all their stars?

Bourbon Beccy made the claim that a core of the RL fraternity believes in the old White Australia policy. Stupid, stupid throw away comment but it really just shows her out for the idiot she is based on the following

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Australia_policy

The White Australia policy comprises various historical policies that intentionally restricted "non-white" immigration to Australia from 1901 to 1973. The end of the White Australia policy was in 1975.

So tell me how the White Australia Policy has anything to do with Aboriginal people seeing as they are the original inhabitants of this land of ours? White Australia policy was originally about restricting non-white immigration, not discriminating against Aboriginals. Sure, the legacy of WAP has extend to Aboriginal people somewhat but if rugby league chose to still beleived in this policy we'd have ZERO Aboriginal players.

I'm simply saying that if we were a "racist" code (even though there are obviously a few bad apples across the board) we wouldn't put on exhibition games celebrating the contribution of Indigenous players. Hell, we probably would not have taken Preston Campbell seriously when he initially raised the idea.

Happened to catch the last 30 secs of the Offsiders today.

Bec Wilson's parting words were "Rugby League" is about to be turned upside down in the next few weeks because of further revelations re:salary cap etc.

I think we are now in about the 300th day of this threat, and this as yet unaired 4 corners show.

To me its either a) They really don't have much and its a bit of light on story or b) there is some legal issues (injunction etc?)

Aust rules (WAFL I think, not the VFL) invented the phrase "State of Origin" - they didn't invent the concept already long used in various sports of non-residential state/national qualification being adopted and used to call up non-residents. The Aust rules S of O was not a one-on-one game, and though it was played in 1977, it was sporadic (not every year) until well after RL began the 3-game series in 1982.

Nor did they invent the idea of an All-Indigenous sports team, a concept that stretches back from the 1868 Aboriginal cricket team, 1888 NZ Natives (Maori), to the Carlisle Indians, the Maori RL teams of 1908-09, the Maori RU teams, and the many Aboriginal RL teams first formed in the 1920s.

Looking around google seems that the Aust rules bi-annual Indigenous game has only been shown on ABC2 or ABC (late night replay).

Wasn't the long standing county championship in England based on origin?

ie. a player playing for Leeds who was born in Cumbria would play for Cumbria.

DUI Bec looked more like a man today than any of the men of panel.

That skivvy, strangely enough, made her look even more manly than she usually does.
