Becoming a member

So I live at Swansea, and go to Newcastle uni with my cousin. Was driving home today and showed him the ticketed membership numbers. After laughing at Sharks for a while, he said Knights are pretty piss poor for the area. I agreed. Then I was like wtf, why aren't you a member? He couldn't tell me. So I was like ok when I get home I'll find out how much and I'll get you the details.

I go to the Knights site, click become a defender (even I have seen those sh*tty ads). There it becomes hard. You can either click join or renew. Obviously I want to join. Now I have to fill out some form for an expression of interest? Why the f**k can't I just sign up now?

I think f**k that, I'll click renew then, see if they just f**ked up the links. Sure, can change the drop down menu to new.

Where are the details of what each membership is and what it gets you? Do you only offer bronze? No silver or gold?

Pretty piss poor effort imo. Should be trying to get people to sign up, not having to call the club to find out how.

yep, becoming a member is ridiculously difficult for this day and age. it's a well documented gripe 'round these parts. i think we would have a few more members, particularly casual members, if the process was streamlined.

i know it sounds ridiculous in the year 2011, but the easiest way is to go into the store and sign up on the spot. it can be done over the phone with a credit card, but be prepared to answer a few questions.

I'll try to talk him into it. But just makes life so much harder when I go back and can't give him any details. Sure I could call, but it's effort and its 7pm.

Being an out of town defender or whatever it is is an absolute joke. I was a member from about 05-08 and we got a members cap, bag, poster, card etc...the last few years out of town members get nothing.

I live in Brisbane and work in a massive warehouse with a couple of thousand people, many of whom are members of other sides, and without fail every one of them gets a better deal from there clubs than out of town fans get from the Knights.

Absolutely 100% correct.

From what I can tell we have the worst deal for out of towners in the league. It's actually ridiculous what you get in the "Ordinary Defender" - can you believ they even call it this? It isn't even an out of towner's pack, it's just the only non-ticketed deal there is. Pathetic. It includes all kinds of "benefits" that would require you to live locally!

I've emailed the club and told them of this and got no reply and it hasn't been changed or another proper out of towner offer added. They should have some kind of "Distant Defender" or something similar specifically designed for people who can't possibly get to any games but still support the club and want to be a member.

The Raiders were up here last week and they were signing up non-ticketed members. For $65 (inc postage etc) you got a member's cap, keyring, sticker and a membership card. If the Knights had something similar I'd sign myself and my dad up in a flash. Especially if they threw in some other discounts on merchandise or something. But as it is I won't be a member now or in the future as it stands.

Yeah I bought my membership yesterday this way.

So will they post out my pass or do I have to collect it from Knights HQ? Only time I will be able to is on Sunday before the game.

Also what's in the membership pack this year?

Even though I go end up going to quite a few games a year, I never really know which ones they will be, so I've kind of not thought about it in the past. This year though, depending on what happens tomorrow, I'm most likely going to get that family package.

So having now paid for my membership, If the Tinkler deal goes through what happens then? I keep hearing something about a comemritive jersey or a partial refund.

you can either take a limited edition, not for retail sale, commemorative 1997 style jersey with every Knights players name embroidered into the design and retain your current membership as-is, or you can claim a full refund of your ticket and do as you please with the new membership options.

I contacted them about this on Monday, prior to the information meeting and apparently because i have a family pass I will get 4 jumpers....don't ask me what I will do with 4 of them....lol

One each. I'll be taking the jersey. Not for retail sale so it'll be a collectable

Yes not collectable however, given that their will be possibly thousands upon thousands given to members then I am not sure how collectible they will be.

Mine arrived in the mail today. Funny that it was just the pass and no letter or anything.
