Would be a massive old boys day if it was Danny's Send off match that's for sure. Less than 27k for that match would be shameful

He is on the path to retirement.

Said on the Footy Show today that he actually took the team bus back to Newie last night because it was going to be his last one ever...... then drove back to Sydney this morning.

I still remember the game against the Storm for his original send off. He was injured but the boys completely ripped in for him and smashed them. Junior Sau pushed two blokes over the sideline at the same time if I recall.

That was an awesome old boys game! I think Hilder put Ben Cross over for the first try too?

Yep spot on. He could defend pretty well. Damn if only Little Pig could pass the ball we would have been set!

No matter what happens now, I am so glad that Bedsey finishes his career with the last laugh against Cameron Smith.

Bedsey was probably the greatest hooker of all time until Smith came along and leaped him and changed the way the position is played.

It just feels so sweet for me that he goes out with that 1-up after many disappointing losses to Smith across all levels of the game.

If we get nothing else out of this finals series, it was still bloody sweet to see Buderus get one over Smith at last.

Indeed, and did you notice immediately at the siren he went down on his haunches ? Then Rochow and all the boys embraced him. I can only imagine those last seconds for him as a player, feeling like we might not hold on and it could be the end. It was emotional stuff!!!

if only joey had this much talent surrounding him in his prime... the back 4 would all be hitting 20 tries a season each...

the 2001 backline is still a bit better than the current. But in a year or two it will make for an interesting debate..

O'Davis vs. Boyd
Tahu vs. Uate
Gidley vs. Gagai
Hughes vs. Leulua
MacDougall vs. McManus

All origin players except Gagai and Leulua, who are only a year or two away)... The 2001 has the better international record, but a lot of that may have had to do with playing outside Johns. Nevertheless, we've always seemed to be able to produce top quality backlines.

I don's subscribe that Smith is a better hooker than Bedsy.

Being in dominant teams such as Storm and QLD with the quality of players around you will always make you look good but that doesn't mean you are the better player.

For sheer commitment, resilence, dummy half play and defence, Bedsy is number 1.

so happy for him to get one over smith

i think everyone forgets that buderus conceded his hooker position to smith (for the birth of his kid), it was not taken off him, though he couldnt get it back
in fact his last match for Australia (ANZAC TEST) he was the MOTH

Remember back when he left for England? He was in an arm sling, he couldn't play his last match, we were doing terrible... I think this season is what fairy tails are made of, regardless of how many more matches we win. We are on a high and if we do lose, I'd rather lose in the prelims than lose a grand final lol

We're shaping up to have a fairytale that is greater than any the media ever could produce for South Sydney. It's all for arguably our most beloved hero.
