Seems you passed the first test, Lachie.

You do realise of course that it is not possible to change your football team, or follow them "a bit", or be one of these wussess with three teams. I went to my first sharkies game when I was your age (a long long time ago) and it is quite possible they won't win anything in my lifetime. It's quite possible they won't even win anything in yours. Think about that before committing. The decision is for life with no get out clauses for good behaviour and no "no fault" divorce provisions...

Hating the stains comes easy. Spending the last few weeks of every season in "if only" mode is much harder, and this will happen every year. Think how it feels to lose at home to souths (two years in a row) and you're starting to get the idea.

For a history you cant beat the "Colour me Black White and Blue" book written a few years ago I think by Gary Lester. You could probably get a copy of this from the club, but perhaps some of the "locals" could advise. Garb's "Sharks Den" is a great repository of everything that makes us great - the link is in the LU sidebar.

Oh yes. He comes here claiming not to know much about Rugby League. One guys says Sharks have a tough time, so he decides to go for them because that is so appealing. He strangely enough has a dislike for Dragons for unknown reasons (common for a Sharks fan). & somehow knows we are 'merged scum'. LOL, there could be NO WAY he went for the Sharks BEFORE coming here is there.

Ain't that the truth. Lachie when I was your age there was a scaffolding "grandstand" where the western stand now is - this was the best place in the world to watch the footy especially with your gorgeous girlfriend who wouldn't put out. Almost every Sunday (no poofy friday night stuff in those days) you'd go home disappointed on two fronts....

Oh, BTW I should mention it is also de rigeur to hate Manly and especially Greg Hartley. Not going to talk about why - there are plenty of threads from those who know far more than I on this subject. And none of this "Sydney Roosters" crap either. They're Easts (or the Rorters).

Okey Lachie, as you asked, here is a brief history of your new club:

The Cronulla team entered the comp in 1967. They lost their first match to Easts 11-5 and finished the year with the wooden spoon. However the team managed to turn it around soon enough and by 1973 they had made their first Grand Final, against Manly. They lost that game (one of the most brutal on record), however they made the grand Final again in 1978, again facing up against manly. To this day Cronulla fans are filthy at the refereeing decisions by one G.Hartley in that game. Parramatta and Wests fans also believe they were dudded that year, and that manly premiership is clouded with controversy. The Sharks went through a lean period for 10 years before winning the Minor Premiership in 1988 and making the semis again in 1989. Then the lean years returned, before the Sharks became regular finalists from the mid 1990's. In 1997 they made the SuperLeague Grand Final against Brisbane but lost that game as well. From 1999 to 2002 Cronulla made the semis every year, but fell one game short of the Grand Final on more than one occasion, the most heartbreaking being in 1999 when they were Minor Premiers then blew an 8-0 halftime lead againt St George Illawarra to bow out of the Preliminary Final 24-8. Seasons 2003-2004 were average seasons, however the club again made the semis in 2005. But still there is no Premiership.
