Not a huge surprise. In the past couple of seasons Belrose were putting together teams that would of beaten some Premier League sides.

It's not ot yet official but looks more than likely. Just awaiting clarification.

They will play out of either Brookvale Oval or Rat Park in Pittwater.

I thought that they couldn't afford to enter without the backing of a leagues club?

For Belrose's sake I hope they choose not to play their home games at Brookvale Oval.
Whilst a great ground it is simply too large for purpose and any chance of attracting a solid fan base could be lost due to the lack of atmosphere that will exist.
This also applies to Pittwater Park to a lesser extent though I think its still a better option than Brookvale.
I dont understand though why they cant simply erect a make shift fence for game days as Ourimbah currently do with ease.

Belrose currently play out of Lionel Watts Park at Frenchs Forest.

Lionel Watts though is a council owned ground and has no fencing surrounding the oval which is said to be a requirement of all Jim Beam Cup clubs.
This is why they are currently considering playing out of Brookvale Oval or Pittwater Rugby Park.
This is not necessary though as all they need to do is gain council permission to erect a temporary fence for match days as Ourimbah currently do.

The only problem mono is that Lionel Watts is massive. comprises netball courts 3 soccer fields and the league field although i guess they could just put it around the league field.

They erected that little grandstand in front of the club house about 5 years ago. get some pretty good crowds too.

By Jason Avedissian - The Manly Daily

AGELESS former Kangaroo Cliff Lyons will today have a hit of golf with Belrose officials with the likelihood of joining their roster for next season the hot topic of conversation.

The 43-year-old Manly legend has been approached by the Eagles to play a role in their entry into next year's Jim Beam Cup.

Belrose's application for inclusion in the competition, considered second only to the NRL, is likely to be given the green light next week.

Lyons' involvement in the competition will be one of the topics discussed today when the gifted playmaker enjoys a round of golf with Belrose secretary Craig Badger.

"Of course, he would be great to be involved," Badger said after confirming Lyons had been approached informally to be coach next year.

"I'm playing golf with him (today) and I'll have a quick chat to him then.

"He's just one name that's come in quite late.

"We've got a few candidates up there and we hope to announce that next Tuesday."

Lyons said he was also considering lacing on the boots again after a successful season in the local A-grade competition with Narraweena where he won a premiership against players 20 years his junior.

"You just have to wait and see," he said about playing in 2005, a year that will see Lyons turn 44.

"I'll see how I feel after Christmas.

"You never know.

"I missed a few games (this year) with injuries.

"That was the main worry, took longer to heal."

Badger also said he could see "no doubts" on Lyons' ability to again run around next year.

"He would be a great player at that level," Badger said.

Lyons said he still keeps fit by playing in a Sydney-wide over-35s touch football competition.

He missed sections of 2004 with rib and calf injuries. Lyons retired at Manly with a record 309 first-grade games to his name.

He returned to the paddock two years into retirement with the Umina Bunnies on the Central Coast. If his body could handle it, you get the feeling Lyons would play in his 80s.

Good to hear.
Any word on where Asquith plan to play their matches. Will they continue at Storey Park?

Next year's JBC represents and expansion and a contraction.

When the JBC was launched it was billed as the next big thing ands there was talk opf big expansion in the short term. Despite considerable assistance granted to the comp, its grand plans have failed in many senses.

Still, I will enjoy my trips to new parts of Sydney next year.

latest word is that following the comfotable victory by combined JB over New Zealand A, the Auckland RL is looking at entering a team on the basis that all travel costs of away teams would be reimbursed by Auckland.

Read that too. I thgink they'd be beter off concentrating on building Bartercard Cup than to go for 3rd grade in Sydney. Bartercard Cup is not as bad a standard as those results indicate.

Meanwhileit is good to read that Belrose will be playing at Lionel Watts.

Auckland arent likely to come until at least 2006. With the NRL clubs talking about $5m to $10m cuts in leagues club grants, Auckland expect to be playing in the second tier comp.

Still a crap idea. NZ is a place big and talented enough to have a go themselves.
