Ben Creagh retires

He cops it on here but he was a gun for a long time and a big factor in the Dragons dominant period. Ran good lines, a great clubman and despite the gif, I will take a well brought up guy who runs a hard line willing to get smashed and get right back up again over a wannabe brawler any day.

Funny thing is, that Merkin with the chip on his shoulder threatened to belt people more times than I care to remembe. he had the tough guy routine almost down patr. The only time he actually did throw them, he got his ass handed to him. Creagh never purported to be a fighter, I can't remember seeing him throw a single punch in his career, certainly won't be mentioned in a cheap dog shot thread or a dirty player thread.

Regardless of what various people think of him, i'll think of him as a great club man, bled red & white. I liken him to other great one club players Ricketson, El Masri, Lamb, Sterling/Kenny.

Congrats & best wishes Benny.

The gif summarises his career. Was nothing more than an average forward who ran at halfbacks.
An edge forward running at halfbacks is usually pretty sensible. If someone is tall with a decent offload it usually makes sense to have them do this, rather than waste them in the middle.

Solid player for many years. From all reports a thoroughly decent guy off the field who has done quite a lot for player education at the Dragons and more broadly. Best of luck to him post-career

Never saw Hodges back down, can't say the same for Creagh.
All he does there is get a good shoulder charge on a smaller bloke, stand over him while he was on the ground. A guy his own size comes over & does SFA, the tough guy act disappears. The difference is, one masquerades as a tough guy (& remembered as a complete merkin), the other is the polar opposite.

Lol at Hodges never backing down...one of the players that redefined the term "cat"

Creagh was a bloody good player for a while, probably should have retired a season or two ago but no one can discount the performances or the effort he put in for the Dragons

lmao if by "tough guy act disappears" you mean "stands his ground and does not run and hide unlike Creagh" then you are 100% correct.

No he didn't run, but when it comes to the crunch the tough guy act always disappears with Hodges. Remember in SOO when he was making the throat slitting gestures towards the end of that game, what followed from hom, not a single thing, allthough credit where it is due he did punch on once, we all know how that ended up.

Creagh on the other hand has never been one to try the tough guy facade. IIRC when asked about the run backwards incident he said "yeah, it's just not me. Not a fighter at all".I don't ever think I've seen him throw a punch. Just a nice guy & great club man.
