One million a season for Ben hunt who wil be 28 by the time he makes his debut and wel into his 30s by the time his contract is finished ? Not a smart move in my opinion but then again these are the same people that decided megregor is a first grade coach no idea at all why wouldn't u throw that sort of money at a young gun junior like jack bird instead

Not convinced this is a smart move. $1M a season for an average halfback with an average kicking game. Duges won't stay for less than $800k/year now. Anyone else who's any good will want an upgrade. Any young promising halves will be looking to other clubs. Wish I had confidence that the club knows what it is doing.

You guys never learn.
1 mill for a halfback that can't kick or kick field goals.

Same shit, different year. First comes anger at the board, then false hope and finished with a disappointing season with you all finding someone to be the scapegoat. Rinse and repeat, so predictable.

You are attributing the signing to Coyne, but when Hunt plays bad you'll then attribute it to Doust. Mark my words.

For your sake I hope you don't sign hunt. It could destroy you for years. I have a soft spot for you guys and I'd hate to see it unfold the way I think it will.

I don't know about 6 years. But when you compare cherry Evans and hunt as a ex front rower I would take hunt..similar money. If Dessy comes we will very competitive

i am elated, after all the crap we have had to put up with this is a monumental signing, even though it is a lot of money, we had to get someone of his caliber to come and join us, we now have and will have when our juniors reach first grade a top competitive team for a number of years.
I would love to see him join this year but 2018 looks like it will our time.

Change of the Guard 2018 Backline - no room for DUGAN IMO unless Duffy proves a total failure....

1. Duffy - Age 21
2. Mcdonald - Age 24
3. Aitken / Herbert - Age 22
4. Milne / Lafai - Age 22
5. Mann / Thompson - Age 22

6. Field - Age 20
7. Hunt - Age 28

Average Age of Backline: 22.7 Years

Hunt + Field could very well equal Hunt + Milford.
Widdop will obviously not be re-signed, and i highly doubt we will keep dugan (he will want BIG dollars to stay now) unless Dufty absolutely fails.
If Dufty steps up, we have a very young side that bring us entertainment for many years!!!
My main question now is, what if Nona or Mann absolutely kill it in the number 7 jersey.... what then?

Nona will play 5/8,Man would be a backline utility, Field will be let gain some time to mature.

Admittedly , it is more than I would had liked the Club to pay , however regardless of our various opinions about his skill level , we had to attract a quality player to the club and that player was always going to be expensive .

Good or bad , I see the Dragons at the same stage as Souths were 6 or 7 years ago , when they could not sign anyone of note , finally they managed to snag Roy Aostasi (?) . They were able to build a team around that one major signing , plus a very capable coach .
End result of which was a premiership .

The Dragons have the basis of a very good team and with the addition of Hunt ( and hopefully a new coach ) we will find ourselves at the right end of the competition ladder far more frequently than of late .

You can bet your bottom dollar , that our exciting young juniors will be playing a huge role , in the future of the Joint Venture , those players have too much potential just to be sitting on the sidelines .

We finally have a number 7. When was the last time we had one of those? As for the salary cap side of things, I don't like to delve into too much as who truly knows our cap position or what all other players get paid, but the bloke who is going to organising and creating for your template should be getting the big bucks.

On top of that, what is the cap going to be in the near future? 1mil may end up being peanuts come 2020 for a halfback.

Lastly, as to the length of the deal, we won't know until the deal is officially announced hopefully in the coming days. The twittersphere has conflicting reports from 3 to 6 years. I would be happy if it were to the lower end of the scale but not too disappointed if it is longer.

At the same stage as what Gareth? Don't leave us hanging.

When they just could not sign any half-decent player , no one wanted to play for the Rabbits , Souths were going nowhere , the Club was in turmoil , very similar to the Dragons present circumstances . But Roy Asotasi got the ball rolling and slowly they made up for lost time .

Brisbane halfback Ben Hunt accepts St George Illawarra’s lengthy multi-million dollar deal offer

BEN Hunt has accepted the biggest deal of his career.

The Brisbane playmaker has agreed to a six-year, multi-million dollar deal to join St George Illawarra from next season.

Earlier this week, the Dragons upped the ante in their pursuit to make Brisbane’s halfback their marquee man and it’s paid off.

Hunt agrees to Dragons' terms

On Friday afternoon, Foxsports.com.au revealed the Red V tabled the halfback a massive six-year deal with the final season an option in his favour.

Hunt has since accepted the offer which will make him one of the game’s richest players.

The deal is understood to be worth almost $1 million a season.

Hunt will play out this year with the Broncos before leaving Red Hill for the first time in his career.

The Dragons have plenty of cash to splash with half their squad unsigned beyond this year, including five-eighth Gareth Widdop and fullback Josh Dugan.

They were also in desperate need of signing a quality playmaker after missing out on both Luke Keary and Corey Norman last year.

Ultimately, the Dragons’ offer was a mammoth deal Brisbane couldn’t get anywhere near.

In fact, the Broncos could only afford to offer him a fraction of the price the Dragons were willing to pay thanks to having 11 of their starting 17 off-contract, including Darius Boyd, Anthony Milford and Andrew McCullough.

Not wanting to lose Hunt, the Broncos made him a three-year offer in a bid to keep his partnership with Milford together.

But it was in vain.

Milford is the Broncos’ preferred half, with the club in talks to extend the five-eighth’s deal for another three seasons.

Rather than take less and stay with the only club he’s ever known, Hunt will now uproot his young family and become the Dragons’ leader.

The 26-year-old made his NRL debut for the Broncos in 2009 and is approaching 200 games for the club.

On another matter with the club, Hunt and Dufty and afield amongst others will bring the crowds back, I bet in 2018 Kogarah will be bursting

We needed a marquee signing at 7 and we now have one

Don't feel we are paying overs

Can't wait to see what the back line will look like in 2018

We have not had a true half back since Noel Goldthorpe

Finally we have an organiser !

Hopefully Field is given some time in Cutters/FG and is a rousing success at 6
