Heighington would have to be stupid to come here. We're probably not going to offer too much more money than either the Dragons or Panthers so money shouldn't be too much of a factor and he would have to work hard to start here over Taia, Paterson, Houston or Simpson. Plus the chance to get coached by Bennett is a massive lure for players.
Heighington would walk straight into our starting pack, he definately wouldn't have to work hard to take a spot off Houston or Taia.
He wouldn't be all that far away from Origin, a really really good forward he is.
But no, we still don't actually need him when the only real missing link in the squad is a top quality centre.
The strange thing is that Smith has the team playing a very open, entertaining, width of the field style of football that a lot of other clubs are not. You would think having some classy outside backs would be extremely important to this plan because Buderus, Gidley, Mullen, Dureau, Bailey etc can actually get some good ball to centres on a regular basis.
Can you imagine some of the tries we would've scored this year with Gasnier on the end of some of our plays instead of Lulia, Doogs, McManus, Wes.....
But there's not point forking out too much cash for another reasonable centre. I'd rather wait another year and hopefully buy someone with a bit of class.
