Benji dropped

The article I posted the link to up thread in this post has been updated after Benji Marshall was interviewed on NRL 360. Following is the updated excerpt -

"He called me into his office this morning and I was a little bit shocked and disappointed to get dropped," Marshall told Fox League's NRL 360 on Tuesday night.

"But Madge is the coach and he talked about making a change.

"I just need to be better. I understand where he is coming from.

"I've just got to train hard again and show them what I've got to get back into the team."

Marshall said Maguire was brutally honest, "like he always is" and the veteran Kiwi recognises he did not meet expectations with his game management and defensive output.

"I'll train hard and fight my way back into the team somewhere.

"No one deserves the opportunity more than Josh does. He is due for some luck and this is his opportunity to show what he can do on the field."

As such I think people are reading in "Benji wants out" solely because he was dropped and with no other real evidence.

Man it's such a fine balance. One year too long in this comp and you are made to look very ordinary.

Kind of like a fighter who's got no chin anymore.

To be fair to Benji though he is playing like Joey Johns compared to the shit Darius is putting up at the moment. Unfortunately Benjis coach has the balls to drop him

Maguire's obviously sending the message, he doesn't care who the player is, if he aint performing, its a stint on the sideline. Not sure if Benji was the problem the other day, however the upside to it is giving a Reynolds a shot. After so many dramas I'm sure it'll do him good.

Benji Marshal form did pick up at the Broncos nothing close to his peak but better then he was at the Dragons. The problem when he played for the Broncos there were too many generals and not enough troopers. Wayne Bennett went through far too many combos that year and harmed the continuity that season. The biggest criticism of the Broncos spine is they haven't played enough together. I'm not sure how you build that by dropping Brodie Croft and replacing him with Marshall

Very strange decision. Particularly after the week Reynolds has had.
That could be the reason. Reynolds needs something to go his way after the past few months he has had. A run back in the NRL could be just what he needs. He wont lack motivation, that much is certain.

Benji's current role with the tigers is probably the last of his career. His role was to show some experience in a young side that is always full of potential but never reaches the levels it should. Benji's main problem in the past was consistency but now it's just age he will have the odd good game where he is in control but missed tackles have probably been the main issue. The other thing is Brooks is the young guy that needs to be more consistent he is the one that is either going to finally get us to the 8 or keep going in and out of games. Benji still can win a game for us where Brooks is still sometimes a passenger. But Benji's last 3 years with the tigers he has done his job especially considering he is playing on minimum wage.

You can see from Broncos what happens when you dont have some old heads in the squad to guide the youngsters. Benji has played a good role for Tigers last couple of years. Theyd probably be a lot worse without him being out there.

Josh Reynolds is on a packet. It must make the Tigers squirm when he's not playing first grade on the money they signed him too. It's time for Reynolds to show what he is made of, but playing a Raiders team coming off a loss isn't likely going to end well for the Tigers.

Sets a good example to all the players that you don't get selected on your name, more coaches should do it imo.
