No!

He's not worth anywhere near that sort of money. Saints got Widdop for a bargain, now we're getting another 5 years of the same old BS.

I think any contract extension should have strong performance clauses in the club's favour.

Every year we sale close to or go over the salary cap yet when you look closely at our team we are not chocked full of SoO or international level players as are some teams.

It would appear we are spending too much money on Marshall and others. I am certainly not including Farah in this comment, he is earning his coin. The return we are getting on some players is simply a joke.

We should be putting money away for upgrading Woods contract, he is a player that needs to be retained, his performances are outstanding week in week out. Marshall at the moment should be handing money back, not holding his hand out for more.

We need to rebuild a team and paying Benji, Lawrence and Blair what they are getting is killing us. Benji should be embarrassed to be asking for more money based on his current form and bearing in mind the older he gets there is more likelihood he will suffer more injuries we shouldn’t be committing for more than two years...just my thoughts on the matter.

A lot of people throw up the argument that its what he can generate off the field as much as what he does on the field. My reply, their is no better marketing tool than a winning football team and Iam not sure if Benji is the X factor anymore.

You throw big bucks and a large chunk of your cap at a great player, Benji is now a good player as apposed to a great player. We have to have enough money in the kit to retain and recruit players and not direct it at a couple of players.

I have to say I disagree with everyones comments regarding Benji. He has had a bit of a slump lately with his stupid low percentage plays but he ads tremendous quality to the team and when he is on form he is a weapon.

Ive said this a million times but we need a strong halfback with as much experience as Benji. Someone like Mitchell Pearce in our side would compliment Robbie and Benji and give our squad sone real spine

I agree 100%. A few years ago Benji was the player all the kids wanted to be but not anymore. He isn't the player he used to be now so I hate to think what he will be like in a few more years. If we are keen on keeping a player just because he is marketable then why the hell did we get rid of Beau Ryan. He is way more marketable these days in my opinion.
I understand that most clubs would be scared to let a player of Benji's profile go to another club but I certainly wouldn't be throwing massive coin at him to stay.

I think there are very few halfbacks on the planet that could come into this team and shine. I think that with the way Farah and Benji command or even demand the ball makes it very hard for a halfback to prove themselves. It took Lui a long time to step up, still disappoints me massively that things didn't work out with Lui. We would've been so much better off than what we are now.

We were on the cusp of greatness with Lui.
It all seemed to go pear shaped when he got the boot and we haven't got that form back.

Benji is definitely the X factor
Most weeks he can be counted on to put at least one pass aimed at a winger into Row X

THIS

We should get him back in a heartbeat.

I don't really give a f**k what he does off the field.

It wasn't Lui.

It was a stable halfback.

Thats all we need.

We had it with Prince as well.

Chad Townsend would be a good get.

Of course it is a great signing and a great sign that benji and Robbie want to stay at our club and rebuild for the future. Gee some of you people have short memories. We have had a weak forward pack for years, and he has had a different halves partner every few games for years and has excelled despite all of this. In 2010 and 2011 he was close to the best player in the world. Last year he was dicked around every second week by sheens. This year has been a slow start but he had an incompetent half for the first few games and our pack is still shit.

Instead of celebrating the fact that we have a player of his calibre for his career, people are whinging. I thought parra supporters were bad!

You often use the quote about Parra supporters Hutch. I can understand you think people are being harsh but I liken this to what happened to Wally Lewis. He was the greatest player in the world however, when his career was coming to an end the Broncos punted him, there was no loyalty shown him and nor should there be. He went to the Seagulls and did nothing, the decsion by the Broncos turned out to be correct.

Benji has been (not a play on words) a great player for the club and most would freely acknowledge that fact but to give him five more years is simply a liability. You say in 2010 and 2011 he was nearly the best player in the world...maybe so. Ask yourself this question, in 2015 and 2016 is he going to be as good a player as he was? I would think not.

I remember back to the Knights maybe 9 or 10 years ago. They did not have any players of note. Their stars were injured or had left yet Andrew Johns single handedly won them games. He is the type of player that can step up when all else around him has turned to shit. Benji isn't.

I guess I have had my rant but my sole point is this is a business and to sign him for 5 years is simply a bad and I think dangerous business decsion.

The sponsors and fans with morals care about what the grub does off the field. Thank god you have no say in running the team.

Aside from being a grub, he was a useless turnstile in defense and went missing whenever the pressure was on. ANY solid halfback would be as good or better than this grub. Luke Walsh offers more.

Benji has launched his own website

Good on him, but really needs some more trophies, highlights and MOTM performances. Great player fading to good, but wearing out his reputation a bit thin imo.

Does anyone know if other player has got their own website, tad narcissistic, but good commercial move i guess seeing his appeal which however will fade without runs on the board.

Say what you want about Lui off the park, but if you think Walsh is a better player than him you clearly have no f**king idea.

If he was as bad as you say no team would have touched him with domestic violence charges hanging over his head. Yet the Cowboys signed him instantly.

As for missing when the pressure was on, this has to be a joke. He was close to our best player in the semi finals series in both 2010 and 2011. Without a doubt our best player against the Dragons in 2010 prelim final.

in the first half of his games, he was the worst defender i'd ever seen. It took 20 games before the dickhead coach noticed, before he placed Fulton next to him in defence.

That lead to Lui's defence improving & his confidence. He played his best footy when the pressure was on in big games.

He was given 20 games to cement his spot. Something no halfback since Prince had & no one since Lui has had either.

Lui wasn't great, but once he got comfortable & confident it created stability that a game plan could be based around.

Miller could prove to be similar. Problem is he's been dicked around so much now that its unlikely to happen, so now he's a stopgap solution til Brooks is ready.

We must not f**k Brooks around & he must be given time, at least a season, to get comfortable & confident.
