The issue with the immortals is that if the line is drawn in the sand and the new inductee's are too only come in chronological order from John's then it is a f**ked representation of the evolution of the game.
Without those legends of bygone era's this game wouldn't exist and for the now and the future of the game to be so recalcitrant in respect of its past just shows that we have truly lost the roots and origins of RL and that is in essence what the game should never forget.
For the game to have been around over 100 years and to have 8 immortals of which only;y 6 are from its past era's shows that the process is entirely flawed.

I am a bit reticent about Norms endorsement.Seems they want young ones. Met the big man twice once at the semis in 1985 and once at a beach in Bribie. A true champion I used to listen to Tiger Black every Saturday late 50s 60s and Norm P and Johnny K were my favs.

Norm was best & f in 3 grand finals that not many address time for recognissance

I’ll be cynical & say Bennett’s recommendation for Provan is so we don’t forever hate him because of his last recommendation for the club - Steve Price as coach:wink:.

BTW - Provan is looooong overdue. Even supporters of other clubs recognise that. Right the wrong.

Saint52 - I can recall Tiger Black , one of the better commentators of that time and perhaps one of the best .

Will always remember what he said after Saints had lost the
1967 Final to the berries " There they go with their heads held high , like the true champions that they are " . After hearing those words I realised that something truly great had ended and that the world had changed somewhat .

That was a fine tribute for those blokes in Red and White , who held the rugby league world in the palm of their hands for 11 consecutive years .

To think Wayne wanted 5 yrs but our fool called Doust said no, just 3 yrs.

Unbelievable.

It's quite simple & obvious, that if Norm Provan was born in QLD he would already be an Immortal. It's become a popularity and sports betting contest these days. Fix it NRL with the Hall of Fame.

Coffs, lets get Norm what he deserves.. to be an Immortal, as I have no confidence in the NRL HQ in regard to introducing a Hall of Fame of any substance.

THe Immortals concept has been around a while. Provan, as you say, should have been inducted years ago.

The change.org page is going well with over 1,200 voting. At least we as fans can try...

I agree Tru and I have signed the petition. If I could sign twice I would! I still remember Mal Meninga's backhanded remark to the ARL during the Super League War and his deflection saying....."What has the ARL ever done for me"
Well for a starters they kept selecting him as a Kangaroo then gave him the captaincy and now he is the coach of the National team. FMD how much does he expect!!!!
Norm Provan never asked or demanded anything in his legendary status and is so well deserving of the Immortal honour.
I do sense the useless pricks won't select him again!

Damn straight. I am a Panthersman and even I can see Norm Provan should be an Immoral. It should have been done years ago.

I heard Dean Ritchie on the Big Sports Breakfast weekend edition even back Norm Provan as the next immortal. He even said it should have been done years ago.

The NRL need to get the shit out of their ears and listen to their fans.

Unfortunately, and disgustingly, I doubt that we will see the great Norm Proven elevated to immortal this time round.
My feeling is that the NRL are looking to induct a living ex-player. The reason is simple, parading around a living immortal will be a bonanza for them, a focal point, someone they can refer to in the present tense.
Now, I'm not saying that this person doesn't deserve the accolade, however, in my mind the concept is flawed when they don't even consider the impact on our games the legends, like Provan, have had on the game and how its played today.
We will never see the likes of Provan (and others) again, but surely their deeds can be recognised in the correct manner.

Good to hear that our friends from the foot of the mountains can recognise class when they see it .

The only thing Norm Provan has against him being inducted is: he's an elderly, white Anglo-Saxon, heterosexual, teetotaller that was born in NSW that won 10 premierships with St. George that are now part of a Joint Venture that the NRL only acknowledge to having won a single premiership.
i.e In this politically correct world, he's screwed unfortunately IMHO.

"Present tense".

Whilst i see your points and maybe he wont get inducted, the fooking clubs play for the honour of raising a trophy of which he is part of. Year in year out, so it is very much in the present.

Its a chance for the NRL to look forward whilst acknowledging a feat that has been documented internationally.

Travesty of justice if he is overlooked.
