No way...as good as he WAS...a coach he's done time to retire or work for nrl..he won all his premierships with an Australian broncos team. Hardly super coaching there ..the one he won with us was probably his best as a coach ..no thanks

If Bennett came to the Dragons, I'd welcome him with open arms. He showed us he had the ablility to mould a team of players together and instil the discipline needed to win a competition. He is a good coach when his heart is in it and I believe the politics he faced at Newcastle and now at Brisbane effects his performance. He can pull the good players for less and improve them in a way that gives players the confidence to perform to their ability. Did wonders for Boyd, Hornby, Young and Weyman. Fixed our soft underbelly with Cosigan, Smith and Scott. Sometimes people have very short memories.

I would rather have Mary.....He has proven himself Id like him to stay for many years as long as he keeps us on TOP of the ladder, cant see why not, hes like a fine wine, gets better with time and bleeds red and white I like the guy hes won me over completely
But does his pen fold?

He's had his time with us and got us the long awaited premiership. Whilst he's a great coach and motivator, it's time for him to retire from NRL coaching and perhaps join the NRL and fix the bloody mess with refereeing & rules. He's a smart operator that could be highly valuable in the right decision making & not fence sitting.

How has Mary proven himself ?

a/ Made the semi's once in 4 years and that was only due to Manly betting saga were they allegedly threw their last game.(meaning they make the 8 and we miss out )
b/ Isn't the goal to win a premiership ? He has yet to deliver.
c/. After 4 years at the club, he would need to go very well this year to makeup for the previous years of failure.

For me the Jury is out...lets see how he goes this year. He is under contract until the end of next year. I.M.H.O he needs to do something substantial in his remaining time to even be considered beyond 2019. By that time he would have been at he club since 2014 (5 1/2 Years). That's plenty of time to deliver something. Here's hoping he can deliver something tangible...eg a premiership/minor premiership in that time.

That's the difference between Brisbane and St George...Brisbane demands success, whilst we're happy to be mediocre.

Brisbane is looking to fire one of, if not the greatest coach of all time after one average season.

And we persist with knuckleheads like Nathan Brown, Steve Price, and Mary McGregor.

Dudes, I'm no lover of Mary. If the wheel falls off the wagon over the next ten weeks he'll have to go and I'd be happy to consider supercoach and true legend of St George Wayne Bennett. But you don't sack anyone when the team's 9 and 2.

No one is saying sack him at this point in time....his contract ends at the conclusion of the 2019 season..Mary should be judged on his entire tenure......I.M.H.O he needs to start producing results...if not a premiership have us close to ...otherwise it may be time to move on and bring in an experienced coach..

Exactly as you have said getsmarty , the man needs to produce this year , more so now that he has the team that he has always wanted . Mary has done an excellent job to get the Dragons to sit at the top since the season began .

The boys are full of confidence and are playing for one another , that is exactly what Bellamy and Bennett have done with their premiership winning sides - that self belief they have managed to instill .

But that aside , as you have said the man really does need to deliver in 2018 , as he owes it to his players , fans and also to himself . For what it is worth , I would like nothing more then for McGregor to do just that , as not only would he be remembered as a very good Steeler / Dragon player , but also a damn fine coach .
