I think people are reading too much into it and doubt he's actually running to the papers to sell his sympathy story. Plus the fact he's been through a divorce would kind of eat your funds up pretty quickly.[/QUOTE]

So he is no different to 50% of the adult population??

Well - the stat is that less than one third of Australian marriages end in divorce. However there are people who go through multiple divorces, so it's far less than one third of the adult population.

The statistics (according to abs) show that there were only 2.3 divorcees per 1000 residents in 2007.
Extrapolate that over a 50-60 year period, and we're looking at maybe 15% max (60x2.3 = 138 out of 1000 or 13.8%). And that is only if every person divorced is unique - ie, they only get divorced once - stats show somebody divorced once is about a 66% chance of getting divorced in their second marriage, then 75% in their third and so on.

My guess is under 10% of the 'adult population' is divorced?

No disrespect intended at all to Kenny; but surely he's at fault as much as anyone in this scenario?

You can't really make enough in your 10 years playing footy to get by for the rest of your life. Having said that, losing his wealth in his marriage breakdown, and not having a job post-football to bring the cash back in doesn't help anyone.

I would strongly disagree that any future income from the game be directed to past players. It ought to be all about the guys playing, and the onus is on THEM to invest it (or whatever) if they don't want to work post footy.

Yeah, I mean it's been 17 years since he retired. Plenty of time to sort yourself out with f/t work. People need to stop sitting on their hands waiting for League to gift them a job after retirement.

So, as most of you know, I know the former chairman of our great club quite well, he and I have spoken at great lengths over the past 10 years about all manner of things. One thing he is at pains to tell me constantly is that if I ever get enough spare cash to do so, to invest in property. He normally uses the examples of past players and the like, that he has given such advice to and they have followed through, players who were playing during Kenny's period, who now own 1, 2 or even 3 apartments in Parramatta and could make a very good living off them along if they so wanted.

I know our club previously has and I still believe does with the Under 20's runs Tafe courses to educate players in financial planning and to plan for a career past football.

But again this comes back to advise that Brett may have received during his playing days or indeed past them.

It is upsetting to hear, but as Delboy has said, unfortunately not that uncommon.

I just hope he catches a break.

Far out, brussel sprout. I was just throwing it out there that it not uncommon.

I don't see the need for you to just waltz in here and start speaking logically. I think you need to go away and have a long, hard look at yourself, buddy. ;-)

Many moons ago I had double booked myself for the night with mates at rodney Rude and dinner with a girl I had just started seeing. An extra Rude ticket became available at the last minute and in my infinate wisdom I decided I would kill two birds with one stone and take Florence along with us...best of both worlds I figured.
If that was the third date with Florence, then needless to say that there wasn't a fourth.

Dare I say that not having a fourth date with Florence saved you from having to chew your arm off in the morning ? ;-)
