These 'bandwagoners' you speak of are propably casual fans that don't want to pay to watch a side that is not performing?

Exactly, they just hope on board when a side is going ok, and slip in the boot when they are not. Have no respect at all for the 'casual' fans that only turn up after a win, in fact, they shouldn't even be called fans, followers would be the correct term for them

I think this thread is very apt, seeing as how our crowd average for 2007 has been something like 11,500. You have to wonder why it is suddenly convenient for the other 15,000 people to show up.

I thought the full house was great and a welcome sight on the TV.

It's just very dramatic that the week before last, around 9,000 more people show up. Then today, around 15,000 more people show up. It's sad, because the club would benefit financially, if around half of these numbers showed up for the rest of the season.

That is the saddening part here. I don't care that much if people are on the band-wagon or not. But the club can't afford to have such a high percentage of fickle fans. It doesn't mean sh*t to the club's books, if you turn up when the finals are on. The NRL loves you for it, though.

So well done to all you 15,000 people, who finally found their way to Mt Smart. Buy a f**king map next time.

I think we have to take into consideration the time and day of the matches. Sunday arvo will get more families and people without prior engagements on Saturday nights. And let's not forget other sporting codes.

Perhaps it is defensive. But its also a real bugbear of mine.

Just always dumbfounds me how people can be criticised for making a contribution to the club. Any contribution, whether it be going to a game, buying some merchandise, paying the Sky bill, whatever, is still a contribution.

As much as every marketing manager involved with every professional sports franchise would like us all to believe otherwise, the oness is on them and the players/coaching staff to entice people through the gate.

It has long been known that people vote with their feet, or "bums" in this case; and that is how it should be. Any team has a certain number of potential fans, people who live in the area the team comes from, the country of origin, know somebody in the team, like their style etc. Of these a small number are hardcore with the time, money, and living close enough to support all home games live. The rest will follow the team live if convenient or else on TV. The potential crowd size is largely determined by how well the team is playing. Even with free tickets Sundays game would not have been a sell-out if the Warriors had not been playing good football!
We have seen on this forum people who could not sit through Warriors games on TV when they were going badly. Sould they be forced to watch them live?
We live in a free society, we do things by choice. Entertainment competes for our free time. We do what we find most pleasurable. Watching the Warriors win is good; watching them lose is painful.

In previous years the Warriors had bigger home crowds. Why are they smaller now? Clearly a number of fans stopped enjoying going. The purpose of give-away tickets is to attract new fans through the gate in the hope they will enjoy the game and come again. The Warriors making the top eight this year will have a direct impact on the numbers attending next year. If they keep playing well the crowds will keep getting bigger. This is the way it is. To call them 'fairweather' fans is illogical; they are simply deciding what is enjoyable to them.
Attending live sport is expensive both in terms of money and time. NZ Soccer has long shown how not to do it. Let us hope, having won so many new fans through the gate, the Warriors performance will keep them coming.
The Warriors determine their own future on the football field; this is the way it should be.

after the last couple of years i dont blame the fans to be garded in turning up to watch the warriors.

lets be honest... the warriors have been rubbish since 2003. dont get upset with the public if they would rather go take there kids to a movie then spend there hard earned on a team that loses 6-4 or whatever to a 3rd string melbourne storm.

if the warriors want to get big crowds then they need to earn it.... the only warriors games i goto are when they play parra. other than that... its been too much of a risk to spend my money on them because there prone to losing to sides like canberra...

Was a comment on how the banner 100% nailed the way people support things in this country, jump on the bandwagon and jump off just as fast

I think it is great that it was a full house, happy that the Warriors took their money off them, but it doesn't mean i have to respect the way the majority of people follow teams in this country.
