Can't say i'm into books all that much. If I do read, it's usually lighthearted stuff like War and Peace and Mein Kempf.

Seriously though, my favourite is green eggs and ham.

traitor,
Wilt is just about the funniest book I have ever read.
For another great laugh get hold of "Schultz" by J.P.Donleavy.Actually he wrote a few crackers.
Tom Sharpe is just hilarious.
The pork pie caper in Wilt is a deadset belly laugh.

I really like The Partner by John Grisham. Very witty and one of those books you can't put down. There was one called Good night Mr Tom or Uncle Tom and was set during the bombing of London in WWII. I enjoyed that one.

I just saw in the movie thread,
One flew over the cuckoos nest.Terrific book, shit movie.Actuallythe movie won an oscar for the best adaption. What a load of crap.
The movie is seen through the eyes of Randall Patrick McMurphy(Nicholson),but Ken Kesey(the author)wrote it through the eyes of Chief Bromden(Will Sampson, the bloody big Indian bloke in the movie).
How anyone can get an oscarfor completely changingthe perspective and context of the book has me buggered.
Yeah,I know,Thats Hollywood.

The Stand - Stephen King

An incredible story about man f**king himself up the pooper and the resultant battle between good and evil.

I've read this book every winter since I was 17 or 18 and have yet to grow tired of it (I'm 32 now !) - anyone who has read the book might appreciate why i read it in winter, lol.

yes wilt is a crack up from start to finish, the doll scene where cement ispoured over itand spotted by the workmen had me in stitches as did his wife running off with the yanks, there were 3-4 books in the series i think.

a girl on the manly ferry recommended it to me,i wish she had'nt as i made a dill out of myself reading it on the manlyferry commuting to work.

i will have a look at the book you mentioned but with 3 young kids it's hard to find a quiet spot and read for a few hours.

I don't read novels, the last fictional book I read was probably the Adrian Mole book. I have a few Terry Prachettnovels (The Colour of Magic, The Fifth Elephant) I have yet to get round to.

I have lots of non fiction, sport, history, philosophy and religion, mind improvement, encyclopedia's, books about language and literature.

"RUGBY'S GREAT SPLIT - Class, Culture and the Origins of Rugby League Football", by Tony Collins. If you only ever get to read one book about Rugby League, make sure this is the one! It is an absolute must for all fans of "The Greatest Game of All".

'The Disposessed' by Ursula K LeGuin still rates highly with me. Just a sci-fi paperback but it addresses issues like anarchy, communism, capitalism and the cold war while still dealing with the futuristic concepts of folding time and space.

I just finished reading a brand new book about Graeme 'Changa' Langlands called 'Larrikan and Saint' - a real good read. Small book of only 184 pages but provides some really good insight into the man and his background as well as giving info on the people who he had around him. Changa had an incredible career!

My fave's ....

Brothers in Arms (About the Milperra bikie massacre of 1984. Not for the faint-hearted, but a brilliantly told story)

All Les Norton books ..... anyone who hasn't read one, desperately needs the education. Make sure you read the first of the series FIRST! Check out the website .... highly advised for Ozbash, and any others who are of the same ilk.

Chopper - what more can I say?

Sex, drugs and Knuckledusters .... an absolute cack!

Z for Zacchariah .... read it as a kid, and was my favourite for years.

Ozbash, if you have the stomach for it you can have a look at the carnage of the Milperra bikie massacre. I checked this site about a year ago but I don't know if it still exists. www.rotten.com

Cheers.

is the site. I just remembered that Robert Barrett is the author, and his character of Les Norton is loosely based on himself.

As for rotten.com Legend, it used to have tonnes of stuff, but the firewall here at work prevents me from visitting there now, under the pretence of "illicit material", or some such bullshit. Actually, the Brothers in Arms book has all the orignal police photos.

I was just wondering how your very own "Mongrel Mob" were travelling these days ??? They appear to have Western Australia and South Australia tied up pretty well from what I hear, albeit they are having a few probs in Perth. Dunno how they'll handle the Rebels and co when they hit Bananaland .....
