If it wasn't for Schif's Qld Red incident Id say he was the clearest cut choice of the lot for me.

But now that I think about it, he is wearing his heart on his sleeve even more (if thats possible) since signing so Ill stick with him.
Gee, a Raiders supporter picking Shifcofske. It's good to see supporters loyal to him, pity he doesn't feel the same way about them.
I don't see how anyone can go past Andrew Ryan or Ben Kennedy. Biased opinions aside.

The more I think about it the more I WANT to give the award to Nathan Cayless. Througout diversity he held his head strong. A new coach cam along and you could be excused for dropping your head. Not him. And he is inspirational on the field as well. To me, I'd probally vote for him now I think of it closely.

I would argue that a captain who can get his side to come back from consecutive thrashings (70-32 and 56-20), that can inspire his side to win 4 (count them, 4) golden point matches and 4 wins from the last 5 matches has done a pretty bloody good job.

The referee giving calls in favour of Canberra in hte Tigers games didn't hurt though :p

Andrew Ryan and Ben Kennedy are the 2 best captains this year... and if Cameron Smith were the regular captain, he would hands down win it. He is the best player Melbourne have and a great leader for them.

Shifcofske is a good player... but the captain of the year?

One could also argue, what sort of captain allows back to back thrashings of those margins? Or an absolute owning from the Souths? Shif didn't win the Tigers match... referee decisions in both games did. I'm not saying he hasn't been the main reason Raiders are where they are... but other captains have been more consistant and done better then he has. And they aren't betraying their teams either.

I would be more ready to accept your diatribe if you actually backed up your assertions. WHY are other captains more deserving? I'm not saying Schif is by far the best captain or anything like that, but you keep telling me that his achievements as a captain count for nothing when stacked up against others... but you never tell me why you consider the others to be better leaders.

Why? Ryan has led his team to be 2nd on the ladder and has had a impact on the club both on and off the field. Kennedy has led Manly to a top 4 position with performances every week. hence the reason he is doing so well in the Dally M voting. Kennedy will get this award but I think Cayless has been better anyway. Schifoske's chances would have been dented by his team receiving 2 thrashings and the fact that they lost to Souths won't be positive at all. I'd pick Cayless, but kennedy will get it.

I was never saying that Schif will win it. What I was saying is that I believe that he has every right to be considered right at the top of captains in the NRL based on his achievements this year.

I personally do think he has achieved a lot more than most, if not all of the captains in the competition. We were supposed to be wooden spooners remember?

If it comes down to which captain gets the most Dally M points then its down to Clinton and Kennedy. Will be very close even though Kennedy was scoring well before the voting went behind closed doors. That would rule out Cayless and probably Ryan (as SBW and Mason had been taking most of the points).

I didnt chose Ryan because any idiot can look like a good leader when they have that sort of playing personnel around them.

As for your sly little comment about the ref helping us, as we've pointed out a million times, he didnt help us for 80 minutes when the count was 12-3. If he'd done his job properly all game we would have won it well before golden point.

Maybe if your captain had told your players to stop giving away so many penalties, it wouldn't have required the referee to turn a blind eye to 2 deadset penalties infront of the goals.

Ryan is leading his team brilliantly, the position in the top 8 tells the story. Kennedy is by far the best player on his team, and like Cameron Smith his presence on the field is the main reason for them winning.

Shifcofske on the other hand... he's a great individual player. But not the same inspirational player that Kennedy or Smith are IMO. You can see the effect those guys have on their teammates.

mate schif is nothing but inspirational to the players around him... not to mention the crowd.

he pumps everyone up and gets involved 100% every game.

i really do think he should be a contender considering we were picked to win the spoon.

What sort of excuse is this? Who cares where the team was tipped to finish? Raiders fans claim Elliot has nothing to do with how well they do, but that Shifcofske is the sould reason for it?

Beleive what you want. The best captain of the year should be consistantly good. IMO in ditching his team to change codes it made Shifcofske far from being the best captain.

Ahhh... so you are blinded to his achievements because of where he decided to play next year.

Should Fittler have been disqualified because he wasn't playing league the year after?

Dont bother argueing with mxlegend - you could prove a point correct in 15 different languages and he'd still rant on about his own incorrect ideas. Ive learn to just ignore him/her now.

Fitler retired. Shifcofske has ditched his team to change codes. What a great captain.

As a Manly fans it hurts me to say that Jason Taylor is by far and away the coach of the year.

Taking a fueding side with mountains of problems and way out of the sh*t no one comes close. If they finish top 4 it will be no contest!

oops just read that its 'captain.'....bugger!

that being the case I say Hindy

cayless and price..bias aside. Both lead by example and always give 100 even when their teams are down. Refs tend to listen to them as well, as they are not obnoxious like some captains that I can think of.
