Not on my best list, but I recently saw Snatch and Billy Elliot. What did you Brits think of them/? I thought Billy Elliot was an interesting picture of working class England. Was it set in league country?

I forgot Breaking Away to round out my top 5.
Recently Sports Illustrated magazine in the US had a long article on sports movies. Chariots of Fire, Breaking Away, and Raging Bull were in their top 10 (or 20, I forget). Has there ever been a movie with rugby as the focus? Wouldn't the 1895 split of league and union make a good period piece film?

My all time best flick is the Godfather.

Thought you might find this interesting, it's from a site called www.imdb.com . Thousand upon thousands of movie fans from around the world rate movies, I usually have a look at the site before deciding on seeing something at the movies and the reviews have never let me down. based on the moviefanratings, the 100 best flicks are

''my life as a dog'' a swedish film from the 80's is a classic.

tin men -with danny devito and richard dreyfuss was excellent also.

close encounters of the third kind-perhaps the best sci-fi ever!!!

Time Bandits. Great film about a group of midgets who can travel through time. Sean Connery has a small role in the film.

One of my favourite movies with I was a little kid (and this may amuse some Kiwis) was the Footrot Flats aminimated movie - I was a huge fan of the comics, and had every one of them up to about 16 or 17.....I still like them but never nag my mum at the newsagents to buy them anymore!!

I wouldn't exactly classify it inthe best film catagory, but I watched Rush Hour 2 on a 'pirate' VCD copy last night, thanks to a friend who sent it from the U.S,and must say it was very, very funny and good entertainment.
I was a big fan of Rush Hour, but this one does surpass it easily in the 'funny' class.
I highly recommend it when it arrives on our shores soon.
)

Mud, I saw Fritz when I was about 15 at the local fleapit, so my memory of the film is a little faded. I remember Fritzy getting his oats with some cute little feline babe early in the film, and all the cops were pigs. I guess it was my first taste of hardcore porno.

Canadian Steve, there was a movie based on Rugby League. This Sporting Life was made in 1963 and starred a Richard Harris as a coal miner turned professional RL player. It was mostly filmed at Wakefield Trinity's ground, but Halifax's Thrum Hall groundwas also used for some shots. Some critics rate it one of the best sporting movies of all time.
