Best Goalkeeper of the last decade

I don't agree, he was good though. But as far as best Goalkeeper ever, hes not even the best that has played for Man U. Schemichael was better and was the best GK I've seen.

as for the last decade, Buffon or Casillas, probably Buffon.

No and definately no.

Best of the last 10 years would probably be Gianluigi Buffon. Closely followed by Iker Casillas and Oliver Kahn. Then you'd have the likes of van der Sar, Julio Cesar and one of my personal faves Francesco Toldo who was still quality after he left Fiorentina for Inter for a few years in the early part of the decade.

Most underrated award goes to Brad Friedel for his time with Blackburn Rovers.

Best of all-time would probably be Lev Yashin; followed by the likes of Gordon Banks, Dino Zoff and Peter Schmeichel, and my favourite of all-time - Neville Southall!!

Mate, Van Der Sar was good, and will always be a United legend for the save that won us the Champions League, but he wasn't the best of the last decade. Not even the best in the EPL for mine (I'd rate Friedel and Cech ahead of him, at least). I agree with the others, Buffon or Casillas the best two of the last decade.

Last season's UCL final is proof that the premise of this thread is ridiculous.

Casillas or Buffon by a country mile.

This is why you can't take United fans serious. Out of the two long term keepers United have has over the last 15 years, you name VDS!?

Tommy Smith has it pretty much bang on. I always thought Kahn was under-rated, apart from the 2002 WC Final.

Why?

VDS can't hold a candle to Buffon, Casillas or Kahn.

Of course he can. He may not be the best ever, but he was at the very top for a long time, played for the biggest teams and never let anyone down.

For what its worth VDS is easily the same level as Casillas and Kahn.

Cech was very good but his injury knocked him back, and he has never got back to his very best.

Buffon and Smikes are the best of recent times. They both had that extra something.

Van Der Sar was so good that while at Juventus they went and splashed a world record transfer on Buffon

Der Titan, Buffon & Casillas can't be separated.

Barca's 2nd goal. Messi's tame shot that went under him. Don't remember Casillas and Buffon making stuff-ups like that in major matches.

He's not even the best Premier League keeper of the last decade. Cech is (and he proved that again last night).

Not true. He was a failure at Juventus and let them down.

He is a very good keeper, but not amongst the true best.

Oh right, so if you let in a bad goal you are a bad keeper?

Or does being a "failure" at one club mean you cannot be a good player elsewhere?

Some crazy criteria going on in this thread.

Cech nowadays is not the best prem goalie. Before he broke his skull, yes he was the best. Not anymore.

Find me footage of Casillas or Buffon stuffing up in a major game.

Casillas kept 4 straight clean sheets in Spain's knock-out games in South Africa. Italy only conceded 2 goals all WC in 2006. Both are superior achievements to Van der Sar's record.
