Okay, simple question - what's the best live show you've attended and why?

Also, what bands have you seen live over the years?

I have to duck out for a meeting so I'll list my top few when I get back!

a toss up -Queen in the 80's were awesome and this year I saw David Bowie. As a muso, I have seen bands too numerous to mention.

David lee Roth ( Via playing)
Lemonheads
You Am I
Hunters and Collectors
The Cure

Died Petty
Radio Birdmen
the Hard ons
the Clouds
Spiderbait
U2
Celebite rifles

....

probably heaps more but I can't think of them .

Best
You Am I doing the HI FI WAY gigs at the Metro in about 95
I went 3 times
The first being the best.

Plus I saw the Oils around 83 at the Hordern .
I was only just in High school and went with a bunch of mates.
It must have been the 10 to 1 gigs.

I sh*t myself the whole time..the crowd was ferocious.

craziest thing I ever saw at a gig was the freak hanging by one arm off a light post at the Big day out
when SilverChair played. He must have been 60 ft up in the air.

My Top 5:

Dinosaur Jr
Yeah Yeah Yeah's
You Am I
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Rolling Stones

3 That Sucked:

Tool (Why did i pay $80 to watch Maynard hide behind a curtian?)
Beck (Seachange tour, didn't get funky at all. Very dissapointing)
Sonic Youth (As much as i love them, the tour i saw them on - they sucked)

Worst Live Band Ever: Somthing For Kate

Neil Young at CNE in Toronto (supported by Pearl Jam) - "there is a town, in North Ontario...".

Teenage Fanclub at the Metro, 2 tours ago - there was a lot of love in the room.

Sloan at Newtown RSL - saw them in Toronto and never thought they'd tour here; had beers with them after the show 'til 4am at the Townie.

What was Ben Harper like? Wouldn't mind seeing him.

Anyway:

AC/DC
Aerosmith
Def Leppard
Baby Animals (twice)
Sting (twice)
Tool
Van Halen
Steve Vai
Sammy Hagar
Whitesnake
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Opeth (twice)
Devin Townsend
Strapping Young Lad
Megadeth
Pantera
Ozzy Osbourne
Dave Mathews Band
Plant and Page (No Quarter tour)
Henry Rollins (twice)
Soilwork
In Flames
Chimaira
Creed (hey, they were free tickets okay!)
Doug Williams and LR Mix (about 50 times)
Will be seeing Motley Crue in December

I'm sure there's more but can't think right now. Anyway, Sammy Hagar was awesome. A really, really quality show with great energy for the full two-and-a-half. It's the one time I've screamed like a little girl at a concert 'Sing Dreams, sing Dreams'

Sting was great too, as were Baby Animals

And of course I enjoyed Devin and Opeth immensely

Van halen were sh*t, but that was because I saw them with Gary Cherone and he just didn't work with them. He was much better with Extreme.

Tool, well Danny Carey's skills were enough for me to enjoy the show. He's a monster.

Ben Harper was great..the crowd was fugged.

Chilli Peppers twice
Teenage Fanclub
Don McLean
split enz
tumbleweed
the Hitmen
grinspoon
violent femmes
Allanis Morriset in a forest in Turkey ( 20 thousand turks screaming Morrisetta !!) it sucked pretty hard.
skunk anianse
the riptides

I was at that show, and you are right - the crowd was a disgrace. If they never get another Harper show down there they have nothing but themselves to blame.

Best Foreign Acts:

Radiohead - saw 3 shows in 2004, just amazing, not like anything I have seen before.
Pearl Jam - I've seen them 4 times now - no matter what you think of their 'new' music (new being everything since Ten for most people), they are damn good live. Have never seen them put on a dud show.
Gomez - Fantastic musicians, great songs, so so so much energy!

Best Local Acts:

Hilltop Hoods - The best Australian live act hands down. There are not many hip-hop acts I like, but these guys are damn good at what they do.
You Am I - A band that are 10 years ahead of their time. Their early material kicks live. Even their late material is underrated. Even when Timmy is wasted they put on a great show.
Shihad - They have been forgiven for their 'Pacifier-era'. Good material that rocks live.

The Living End are hands down the best live act in Australia today....never disappoint me even and the shows are still always top drawer even though I've seen them at least 2 dozen times since 1996! it just never wears thin!

honorable mentions to The Black Keys & Ozomatli and No Doubt have been good whenever i've seen em play...

I'll add that to my list - thanks for the reminder!

Also Area 7 (who were supporting the 'End that night) go off, and Foo Fighters.

area 7 have played with TLE quite a few times....I saw them together on the "Save The Day" Tour in 98 and there was some tour in 2001 where I saw em at the POW...
