There are quite a few war movies that i like.

Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
We Were Soldiers
Gallipoli
Blood Oath
All Quiet On The Western Front
Black Hawk Down
Hamburger Hill
etc...

I also enjoyed the Band of Brothers series.

Another War movie I liked was on World Movies but I can't remember the name of it. It is based around the Winter War of WW2.

The thin red line is also good, sadly it dosnt get much recognition as it came out the same time as private ryan. It is still a very good movie and focuses a lot on the emotions of soldiers as well, which a lot of war movies fail to depict.

Personally The thin red line is a better film than private ryan....

Saving Private Ryan shits all over most war movies, especially The Thin Red Line.

Another movie that has captured me is A Bridge Too Far, truly outstanding. And a damn good cast too. Apocalypse Now is also worth a mention. So for mine, it's...

Gold: Saving Private Ryan
Silver: A Bridge Too Far
Bronze: Apocalypse Now

Check out "Glory" with Denzel Washington & Matthew Broderick.

Kubrick made both "Full Metal Jacket" and "Paths Of Glory", two wonderful films.

"Gallipoli" & "Breaker Morant" are probably the two greatest Aussie movies ever made.

Do yourselve's a favour!!!!!!

 Hartman could have a whole thread devoted to his quotes from F.M.J.

"Where in the hell are you from anyway Private?"

"Sir Texas Sir!"

"Holy Dogshit! Texas! Only steers and queers come from Texas Private Cowboy, and you don't much look like a steer to me so I guess that kinda narrows it down..."

Personally The Thin Red Line was crap, boring and didn't make sense. I am talking about the remake, the original wasn't as bad but the remake was vomitous puke.

So what era do you think produced the best movies? Vietnam, WW1, WW2, Gulf War, etc,?

Personally I prefer Vietnam. Full Metal Jacket and Platoon are some of my all time fav movies.

But Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers were also good. And then we get into the ships and planes, Das Boot, Run Silent Run Deep etc,. It's a close call.
