best (most valuable) player - Hornby
runners-up: Barrett, Bailey
most improved - Best (scooping the only award not named after himself)
runners-up: Young, Poore
best forward - Bailey
runner-up: Young
best back - Gasnier
runner-up: Best
best rookie - Wes
runner-up: umm... did Corey Payne play first grade last season?
best team try - Round Five against Manly, length of the field, finished off by Young
runner-up: Round Eight, Gasnier's second against Wests, scored from fifty out, with some great passing and individual shows of brilliance from several players.
best individual try - Round Nine, Gasnier against Souths. Was surrounded by three or four players, weaved through them and beat the fullback with ease. A try only he could score and seemed so effortless.
runner-up: Round Twenty-three, Barrett against Broncos. Broke the deadlock with a sixty metre burst, blowing Karmichael Hunt away with his speed.
best tackle - I don't really commit these to memory quite that well, but Barrett has put some massive hits on this year, and of course Creagh has had a few great ones as well.
best win - Round 21, St George 44 Easts 6. Almost the perfect performance, hardly made an error the whole match and our few mistakes came when further tries were begging. Roosters played one of their best games of the year and were still blown away.
runner-up: Round 23, Broncos 4 St George 24. With the Broncos still six points clear on the table and the cracks in their season only beginning to show, we matched them blow for blow as they tried to re-ignite their year with a spirited performance. We weren't phased, and slowly turned the screws and after withstanding some sustained periods of pressure, ran away with it pretty comprehensively and proved our worth as premiership favourites.
worst performance - Round Three, Penrith 18 St George 8. The reffing was atrocious, we were dudded three or four times on Russell Smith's incorrect interpretation of the obstruction rule, and there were big question marks over two of Penrith's tries, but that doesn't disguise the fact it was an awful performance by us (and the Panthers too, for that matter). We honestly didn't look like scoring a try in a single set of six the whole match, I can't even recall how we managed one.
runner-up - Preliminary Final, Wests 20 St George 12. Ok, it wasn't
that bad. But it wasn't great either. We were a side without rhythm, and it was painful to watch a team that had looked so good in mid-August produce such a mediocre display.
season highlight - Six great wins in six weeks from Rounds 19-24, with our season on a knife edge after the 40-14 loss in Round 18 had reduced us to a 9-8 record. Anyone who tries to say we choked this year just needs to look at how much pressure was on us over that six week period and how well we handled it.
season lowlight - Starting one and five. Losing the preliminary final.
players to watch next year - Wes, Gasnier, Hornby, Young, Creagh, Barrett, Head
teams to beat next year - Sharks and Broncos and whoever's standing in the way of a premiership.
best poster - Godz Illa
worst troll - don't care.
