Ok,

For starters, don't use the term 'union apologist'. I love union, but I wont ever apologise for loving a sport. Are you a league apologist or a league lover?

Secondly, I'm struggling to grasp why these threads always turn into bagfests. Some of us like union. Some of us like league. Some like both. What does it matter?

Union and League BOTH have attractions, they both also have major flaws.

Can't everyone just accept them for what they are, that is, sports which many people all around the world enjoy?

You're a true mental giant aren't you iggy.

I should have known better than to expect something constructive.

fairdinkum, you and razor need to stop pretending to be ostriches and get a dose of reality!!!

you can invent all the convoluted logic and mumbo jumbo you like to try and spin a fantasy cocoon around yourselves, but the reality is that the tahs get over 30,000 to each game, the brums get over 20,000 a match and wallaby test attract over 50,000 a pop.......year in year out.

in other words union is very popular......it's a great spectator sport.

It's a great social occasion, I wouldn't go so far as to call it a sport.

As for knuckleheads in the north of england, those knuckleheads invented the machines which could process wool from marino sheep and thus financed a lot of the early progress in Australia.

If people wish to watch an obfuscated fumblefest full of stoppages and penalties then union is ok for that, if they wish to watch a game of speed, skill and strategy then they have rugby.

You should look up the word "apologist"

I know what apologist means.

I don't need to justify why Union is better than league, that's my point. Because it isn't. Nor is league better than Union.

They're just different.

WHY CAN"T LEAGUE DO WHAT RUGBY DOES AND POST A BIG CROWD FOR OZ vs SAMOA?

Simple.

Samoa does not have a league side that SAMOA would support. IT IS A RUGBY COUNTRY. Why would Aussies support a farce.

Has it occurred to most on here that "rugby league" includes the word "rugby"? Union has tried on several occasions to force rugby league to drop the word "rugby" - in France they succeeded which meant that the French rugby league couldn't petition for the return of the assets stolen by the Nazi collaborationist french rugby union.

Unfortunately we are stuck with it although union seems rather keen on muscling in on the word league now.

"league rugby" in England rarely refers to rugby league, The National Rugby League in France isn't rugby league.

Find the part where I said I'm better than you. Also find the part where I said I love that fairy sport AFL.

Also find me a constructive argument from you.

Oh wait, don't bother. Everything I just typed doesn't exist.

Fairy sport AFL??? Don't disappoint me Timbo, you are suppossed to appreciate each sport for what they are.

I'm devastated. I thought you were a peace-loving Timbo.

I guess you're just a selective hypocrite like the rest of them. :(

To all the union wankers: Stop using the extra points for tries and goals in your game to justify blow-outs.

That is countered by the fact the ball is hardly in play compared to rugby league.

Okay, how do you justify 42 points to nil in one half of a game between the two best international sides in the world, with the beaten side having home country advantage?

Who is justifying it,of course there have been the odd blowouts in rugby when the Kangaroos played the Lions in the tri series in England? The point of the argument is we are talking about 2 recent union tests,Samoa and Fiji have gone backwards big time with cricket scores amassed against them with monotonous regularity. This with all the financial resources of the IRB and the fact that union has been the national codes of these countries for decades.
Obviously you dont listen to steady Eddie Jones(heard he coached the Wallabies) that this is not good for the game .
I recommend a good book for you"The Forbidden Game" just to keep you up to speed as to why rugby should be part of the name rugby league. When a govt(aka the French with a little prodding from union officialdom in 1946 ) bans rugby league from using the name rugby until the late 80s,thereby preventing govt grants ,preventing the game being taught in schools etc,and another reason for rugby league to fall into the doldrums in that country you may get the message, and it may sink in to a closed mind.
