"Wendell will be fresh after two years off and all that time in union," Wiki said.

Well his shoulders should be fine, he hasnt made a tackle for 6 or 7 years!

Go Big Dell.
He used to terroroise the Dragons every time he played us, good to have him on our side now.

He used to be so good, I think RU is just a career killer, perhaps he is happy that he played for Australia. The only advantage apart from money is that RU has a bigger international stage. Hopefully he will be a bright spark for the Saints in the latter season.

I never watched him at union but my wonder with Dell is can he hit up..

When he was in league he often more often than not never hit his opposite straight on.. He always ran angled at them

Dual international Wendell Sailor says he is considering offers in Europe and is yet to settle on a club for his comeback from a two-year drug ban.
Sailor's suspension ends on Sunday and he says he could play rugby league or union in France or Australia.
Sailor has refused to say which club he will join, but admits he would be tempted to play under Wayne Bennett at the Dragons.
"My first priority is rugby league and I want to come back and finish my career in rugby league," Sailor said.
"The Dragons are a good club but at the same time I just want to make sure I do everything right.
"I've worked with the Dragons over the last six or seven months and they've been very supportive but until I sign on the dotted line, really I'm a free agent

Shellharbour Marlins say hello Sailor

Tim Barrow | May 10, 2008

WENDELL SAILOR is set to make his first step towards a return to the NRL with Jim Beam Cup team the Shellharbour City Marlins next weekend.
The former Wallabies and Brisbane Broncos star completes a two-year ban for cocaine use on Monday.
And the Herald understands Sailor will line-up for the Marlins, which is a feeder club for St George Illawarra.
Marlins coach Dave Walsh, a former Illawarra Steelers front-rower, last night said Sailor's ability as a drawcard would be a massive boost for the club.
"We are certainly hoping to get him," he said. "It would be good interest, we're trying to establish ourselves in this competition. It's instant recognition, it's a way to attract sponsors. We haven't got a lot of major sponsors at the moment and it would certainly increase revenue."
However, Jim Beam Cup rivals Erina are poised to be immediate winners for the attention Sailor would bring to the competition.
In what would be a major money-spinner for the Central Coast club and provide national media exposure, Sailor and Shellharbour will play at Erina Oval next weekend.
It is believed another Dragons player, possibly prop Jon Green will make way for Sailor to play for the Marlins.
In the Jim Beam Cup, a points system for professional players acts like a salary cap for clubs.
Sailor will receive a discount, having been away from football for the past two seasons, but Walsh said it was likely the former international would still attract 15 points of a 100-point cap.
Green could switch to Carlton League club Helensburgh, having played for both the Tigers and the Marlins this season.
In just their second season in the Jim Beam Cup, Shellharbour were fifth on the ladder heading into last night's clash with Chester Hill.
NSW Cup team Newtown had made an offer to Sailor to play in what is the premier statewide feeder competition to the NRL, but the plan was vetoed by the Dragons because of the financial opportunities it would create for the Sydney Roosters, with which the Jets are aligned.
Sailor will front a media conference at WIN Stadium on Monday when he and the club can officially end a ban on discussing the 33-year-old's future.
While Sailor's link with the Dragons has been one of the worst-kept secrets in the NRL this season, coach Nathan Brown would only say Sailor's signing was a "work in progress".

WTF- Is that all we are signing people for now, publicity and sponsership dollars???
How about signing people because they will provide substance(pun intended) instead of just getting people that will bring in the dollars.

I heard big Dell on Sports Tonight refer to his suspension as "A holiday".

I've also previously heard him answer a question asking him "how do you think you would go at St.George?" with the reply I reckon big Dell would look good in a white jersey"

The bloke has always been a pole smoker.

But if that Pole Smoker can bring the noise for some Premiership lovin, I'll be the first one to slap Big Dell's number on the back of my Big V!

It's official: Wendell Sailor signs with Dragons

Peter Cassidy | inorbit.com | 12/05/08 | 0

Wendell Sailor could be wearing the Red 'V' of St George Illawarra in a matter of weeks after today signing with the club on an incentive based deal spanning this year and the next.

The former dual international's two-year ban for testing positive for cocaine expired at midnight Sunday, and the Dragons wasted no time signing their prized recruit - inking the deal just hours later.

Sailor will make his rugby league return via Jim Beam Cup side the Shellharbour City Marlins as he pushes his claims for an NRL jersey.

The 33-year-old enforcer left the NRL to join the Queensland Reds Super 12 (now Super 14) rugby club in 2001, before representing the Wallabies in the 2003 Rugby World Cup - meaning he hasn't played in the NRL for seven years.

Sailor was long recognised as a barnstorming winger but is tipped to make his return in the back row.

He has employed the services of a personal trainer in a bid to shed some unwanted weight and get back to match fitness, and was looking lean and eager at the Dragons' media conference on Monday morning.

:: Dragons Media Release ::

Wendell Sailor officially a Dragon
Written by: Dragons Media
May 12th, 2008 12:21pm

The St George Illawarra Dragons today wish to advise that they have agreed to terms with former Kangaroo and Wallaby, Wendell Sailor until the end of the 2009 season.

“Wendell Sailor is a great athlete and particularly a great Rugby League player. He is a person who brings significant attributes to our Club,” said Dragons Chief Executive Officer Peter Doust. “We have conducted detailed reviews of his injury history, fitness base and overall commitment to achieve, and believe this new partnership will generate positives for both parties.

“We are confident he can be effective for the Club, on and off the field. Wendell has a specific educational / experience message to communicate, off the field, and an opportunity to reposition his status as a Rugby League player, an athlete and a valued citizen of our community,” added Doust.

Sailor, 33, played 185 games for the Brisbane Broncos, scoring 110 tries between 1993-2001 before switching to Rugby Union.

“I’m very excited about joining the Dragons and am grateful to them for giving me the opportunity,” said Sailor. “I don’t believe that my sporting career is finished and I have had a long time to reflect upon it having been outside of the sporting arena since May 2006.

“I believe that I can still compete at a high level and it is comforting to know that I now have a real opportunity to do so.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge, I have worked hard on my fitness and I’m excited about playing my first competitive rugby league game since the 2001 preliminary final against Parramatta”.

Sailor will make his rugby league comeback this Saturday with the Shellharbour Marlins in the Jim Beam Cup against Erina in Shellharbour at 5.30pm.

The dragons are f**kt. making this guy go and play for Helensburgh to make way for 33 year old convicted drug taker.
i hope Wendall fails in his come back. Just so everyone can see how incompetent the dragons admin are.
The dragons have been quite lucky with injuries this year, a few injuries to the forwards and they will be screwed.
Having no reserve grade was a great idea NOT!!!!

After all those years of absolutely hating the guy's guts, it's going to take me a while to get used to this image.

Hey fatdog,

I hope Sailor doesn't fail, in fact I think he will add considerable spark to the team.

Still need a playmaker though.
