Ok you probably got me there Matt as I'm the type of idiot who is waving the big raiders flag when we are losing 64-28

not an idiot dude it takes all sorts, whether you percieve them as rediculous or not and it helps to have people around you that will ask the Question.

C;mon Bay you don't think our management want to sign a big player? They have stated that they know they might have to pay overs to get people here..

I think you're selling them short, just because we don't go after our signings through the daily telegraph doesn't mean we are not trying to get that marquee player..

Management are not happy at all with our 14th place finishing last season.

now let me see which big name signing we've signed in the past decade ... hang on dude I'll be with ya in a moment

FFS Schifty ... f**king big fat donut !!! ... we dont even keep our own, while keeping the likes of Drew, Tyran f**king Smith and other twits.

C'mon how many "Big Name" players have we signed in the past 25 years? It has never really been within the clubs culture.. We've always been a club that develops it's own.

OK so you're not happy with our Current management, but they weren't here 10 years ago.
The Current Management+Henry is the first completely new team post News Limited ownership.. They will go after players, but there is only so much they can do.. I'll be happy if Zilly and Carney are signed up to long term signings next year that make them our Marquee men.

No such thing as a stupid question.

All good, for some reason you and (is he your brother?) Matt know how to get me to respond

no matt is just another concerned supporter who isnt willing to accept mediocrity year in year f**king out while having excuses such as 'Canberra is boring, cold and has no beach' given as excuses for that lack of success ... the fact is if Russell Crowe took over the Raiders Donny Jnr would be the first to be shown the door.

err Mal Meninga ... and the rest goes down in history ... management was advised back in 1985 to get thenselves a big name signing to the club, whatever it took, and the rest would logically come

without that big name signing we would not have tasted success and probably would therefore never have seen the likes of the Daley's, Stuarts and Clydes stay at the Raiders or even stat their careers here.

So 1 in 25 Years??

We are in a much different position to 25 years ago. In mnay ways.

Also in recent times, Henry offers a much more exciting style of footy. No surprise we struggled to get player to come here. Henry has changed the style of the team which will see us reep rewards in the long run.

Yeah like Shane Richardson was doign such a wonderful job at Souths.... Did Rusty show him the door?

Rusty is a 1 in a Million type scenario for the NRL.

We'll have to agree to disagree as this could go around in circles until kickoff 2008

I;m off to bed now,
I'll leave it in the hands of TR and dubby to take over the fight tomorrow

take Care mate,

Dude that one big signing gave us the base of a very successful club for the next decade ... we had enough difficulty from that point keeping our own stars under the cap (and dont remind me of 1991).

One or two big names can completely change the landscape for us .. but if we persist with offering the likes of Howell way above his capacity to deliver on the football field we deserve to get the wooden spoon favourites each year.

Exactly 56.

You don't need to throw 700k at multiple players. 450k is enough to bring a player here who can direct attention to an unfashionable club. Ever thought about this... Young players will take less if a team is succcesful? Instead management paying are overs for guys that couldn't find a contract elsewhere(Turner).

Zillman and Carney are two good young players so they need to be the building blocks. You think they'll stay if this team continues to spit out 14th place? The team lacks a real leader and a winner. Bringing a Kennedy or Petero or Price would improve this club 10x. Manly and NZ have benefitted from such a purchase and Penrith will do the same.

We've got decent juniors here, but guess what? Souths had them also and they were langiushing down the bottom for a decade. Took them a big signing in Asotasi to take them out of the cellar and not bit players.

The sad thing is, Bay really believes that it's that simple. Amazing that the people who do this for a living haven't thought about it, isn't it....

There is nothing more pathetic than the little people looking in from the outside second guessing those who actually know what they're doing.

So put up or shut up! Bay, if you are such a rugby league management talent send your resume in and apply for a job. NRL is a commercial venture - when they see that value that you can bring to the club I am sure you'll be offered a position.

Or is it just that it's so much easier to snipe from the sidelines with stupidly simplistic solutions and no real understanding of the situation?

Those who can, do.

I would, by the way, add the sniping to Greeneyed to that. GE runs an outstandingly successful internet forum. He works hard at it and he's done extremely well.

People like Bay just find it easier to bleat and moan.

Can you do better, Bay? Or are you just full of hot air?

Produce, or stand back and let those with real ability do the job you can't.

thanks for your very thoughtful input there T_R

maybe congratulating management for our undoubted lack of success in the past decade is your way of conducting yourself on a forum ... quite frankly it's not mine

I'm not congratulating anyone. What I'm saying is unless I can do better, I show a little restraint in the comments I hand out.

I used to work for someone whose business practices I disagreed with. I thought I could do better. So, I opened up my own business and did.

You have a lot of very forceful opinions, Bay. You are very confident that you have the answers.

So run for the Raiders board. Apply for a job there. Put up, or shut up...and let more talented folk - people who can actually achieve - do what they can do.
