I've always thought a US college wrestler could be a great defender, would certainly dominate the ruck
Not such a hot move when they're stamping that crap out of the game. We already have enough problems with the refs.

You are correct as long as the club and fans continue to have that grim outlook on things... negativity breeds negativity

There is no reason why if the money is just as good, we cant nab one of the big 3, if anything because of their religious ideals, we are better suited, the boring, low key canberra stimga might actually work for us.

i say we go for broke, free up some cash, if that means blokes like dobson and colin best are sent packing so be it, and get TC signed on the dotted line and used anything left (be it 300k or 500k) and table big offers to Falou and Inu, we cant afford both by one will do...

I dont think its so much of been negative its more so who the 3 are , Falou and Inu will stay , hayne will be the one who moves on but it will be to a Sydney club ( prob souths ). I would love to sign Falou and pay whatever it took to get him but it wont happen , if he does leave Storm it will be to his family ( in QLD I think ) money wont dictate this kids decision.

I'm not worried about missing out on the big names. Because I don't think we should be chasing them anyway. A guy like Luke Rooney could do the same job if not better than Folau and be abut half the price considering it is a long time since he has played rep footy.

honestly all those guys on that list will never come here..no matter how much we throw at them..Schif was the best signing over the past few years..and he came in as parra backup towards the end of that season.

f**k dude you are starting to sound like donny jnr

FFS why wouldnt they come here, pray tell ... what is Canberra, a f**king backwater or something

if we keep with that sort of thinking, yea I agree we'll never nab a top line signing

what we have to do is pay overs in an attempt to get this club back in the top four on a regular basis, not just piss farting in the bottom half of the table year in year out

Then they'll start coming here for less than the going rate

As I said, we are no chance with the "stars" like Hayne, Folau, Inu and so on.

But other guys that are proven very good players (very different to Frawley who only ever had potential) such as Luke Rooney and Willie Tonga would surely consider a big offer. And both of those blokes would definitely be a great additiong to the side.

But I think some blokes will step up next season which is all I am really worried about ATM anyway. It's a make or break year for a number of players but most of all, IMO, the coach Neill Henry.

so if we paid Hayne $150K more than any other club would offer he would not come here ??

Raiders should come to my hometown and recruit - Wellington. We have a sh*tload of talented kids here. Not to mention the kids who play union at school who could be swayed because they're interested in League too. Kids are forced to play Union for their schools here because there's no League. Only a handful of schools have League teams. Plenty of these kids like both games, some play both. The Raiders have lost that Kiwi connection we used to have...Wiki, Pongia, Lomax, Hoppe, Todd, Vainikolo. The best outside backs in the game are Polynesians. We have plenty of them here. If we can't get the Aussie Polynesian boys then we should get them from over here. The Warriors are neglecting most of NZ. These kids are hungry.

just back from my cousins daughters wedding .. we are all Raiders fans and sit togther at the football ... the groom asked the bride to add a bit of Raiders flavour to the wedding ... the bride arrived at the golf course in a green helicopter ... now that's what I call a Raiders supporter arriving in style.

56 you are forgetting that management every year have the statement "We cannot afford X player because of salary cap difficulties"

On a serious note - I'm with you 110%. It only takes one player to change the club culture in the market and on the field. If you look at Souths with Asotasi it's a case of buying respect in the market. Management are happy to flog off every year that they've spread the cap over 20 crap players while pushing the cap boundaries with superstars like Glen Turner and Lincoln Withers.

P.S Wouldn't Canberra be ideal for Islanders or Aboriginals? We need a few X factor players... About 10 of them would be ideal.

would you have said that 2 year ago before Russell and co changed the culture and future landscape at the land of the perennial losers ??

answer, a resounding f**king NO, in caps and b/f

and that's the reason why Raiders management wont nab him ... we are preceived as the land of the perennial losers ... you come here when everyone else doesnt want you and get $200K in the bargain

if enough pressure was placed on those non-performing many that reside in headquarters we'd have had a cup or two in the cabinet in the past decade ... we've looked more like having a couple of spoons locked up

The current recruitment suggests your right Bay , but even when we were winning comps what big name did we attract or sign , and that was with a winning coach in Sheens , Henry I believe is trying to change the culture towards our former glory days.

we didnt need to attract big name signs back in the day dude ... we had a hard enough time keeping the ones we had under the salary cap

Henry may be attempting to change the culture but that alone does not win you a premiership or, at the very least, keep you in the hunt for one ... you require X-factor players, backed up by a group of talented players, a number of honest players and a coach to that brings all that together

.... ie you need management with sufficient brains to realise that a player like Howell is not worth the $200K he is reportedly being paid.

I've had my rant about Amway dude :D

BEsides, you and Bay have NFI.

Just where do we get this supposed extra $150k from? Even if we do shed the dregs from the club, we still have to account for Howells salary (and Dobbo if he takes off) under the salary cap. We still paid for Frawley and Lomu to play for Brisbane this year.

I can guarentee every one of you that the club WILL make an offer on some of these players. This misconception is what irks me most. But, you need to understand that the likes of Folau, Hayne and Inu will attract HUGE offers from everyone. Just say they are offered $400k per year from another club. Under bays mindset, we should offer him $550k! That would make him the highest paid Raider ever,(so what I hear you say) and soak up valuable cap space and loosen our chances of keeping Carney, TLL, Picker, Zillman when they are off contract.

How can we put all our eggs in one basket? To pay $550k for one guy and to do that have to release about 4-5 backup players......I dunno. IF Mr Superstar loses form or gets a season ending injury........

Plus, it is harder believe it or not, to get a player to relocate to Canberra. It wouldnt be too hard for a young single guy, but for married dudes with kids it is harder.
