Bird charged

NULLA five-eighth Greg Bird, suspended for 10 matches earlier this season for kneeing, is in trouble with the NRL judiciary again.

Bird was today charged with a grade two dangerous throw by match review commissioner Greg McCallum following a tackle on Newcastle winger George Carmont in the 76th minute of yesterday's game at EnergyAustralia Stadium, won 34-26 by the Sharks.

The 20-year-old could be suspended for three weeks if he enters an early guilty plea and four weeks if he contests the charge at the judiciary and loses.

Bird only made his return from suspension two weeks ago after being given a 10-match ban in April for kneeing South Sydney winger Shane Marteene.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand Warriors' recent discipline woes continued when winger Henry Fa'afili and prop Iafeta Paleaaesina were charged today.

Fa'afili was hit with a grade one striking offence while Paleaaesina was charged with grade one contrary conduct – fighting.

Neither player will accrue enough penalty points to be suspended if they enter early guilty pleas.

The Warriors already have three key players on the sideline serving suspensions – winger Francis Meli, prop Jerry Seuseu and back rower Sione Faumuina.

Penrith forward Richard Fa'aoso was also charged by McCallum with a grade three careless high tackle following his 54th minute hit on Melbourne's Ryan Hoffman at Olympic Park on Friday night.

An early guilty plea would out Fa'aoso for one week while he could be suspended for two matches if he contests the charge and loses

he dead set makes you shake your head.
On one hand you feel sorry for him but then you look at what he did, & the situation he is in now & you just think, WHY?
There are no excuses for him. None.

....Other than it being an inconsistent and harsh charge.......

Where is the charge for QUINN for his effort on Simmons ?

Highlighting the inconsistancy is paleasaenas charge of contrary conduct for throwing those punches on then eels player........where was the same charge for Tallis for his tirade on Ben Ross ?

The charges are a joke and should be defended.

I dont think it was intentional, like when he kneed marteene. he just set out for a solid tackle and the poor guy gets suspened for it.

One would think that Bird will instruct the club to try & beat the charge.
it is really his only chance.
3 weeks would see him available for the Broncos but, Mr Kent will have consolidated his place in the team.
When he loses his appeal, he will be available for the Roosters.
Then there is only 4 games unti the finals.
Mr Bird may have played his last game for the Sharks.

there is no need to. He will come back just like he came back form his previous suspension.

And it will probably cost him $12000 in suspended fine after the kneeing incident as well. That was why he looked pretty sick when the ref was reporting him.
