Bird out for Three.

Bird will be at the club next year.
Much to the angst of some.
But we have invested 35 games in this walking brain explosion.
His only value, is really, his game experience, which will account for alot in 2-3 years.
He needs to go through a rought trot & perhaps he will come out the other side without all of the things he is disliked so much for.
If rough trot means interupted contract negotiatons, reduced money, fines, public humiliation, whatever, he needs it.
If he can survive that he has more than enought time to acheive good things & do it in a manner that is more palatable for supporters.

now i am not birds biggest fan and i think the ban appropriate but i think this was unnessecary:

"Steve Rogers said the pivot's ill-discipline could affect his chances of being retained. "

maybe it is a ploy to take advantage of bird in a vulnerable position and get him to sign cheap

Or maybe it is so they can say doesn't matter if he goes elsewhere

maybe PJ

it just doesnt sit right with me

i think the only reason is as a value reducer when bird is probably negatiating a contract with the club

he should not have made it public

I think this story makes it look much worse than sludge's comment actually was.

If you read the story in the bird on a wire thread, it is reported that he was asked if his "ill discipline could affect his chances of being retained", to which sludge replied that it is "something that has to be looked at".....which, in my opinion is correct.

I think in that context it was a reasonable response.

I agree HH.
Sludge has to serve many stake holders. Not just the Bird interest group, or for that matter any single player.
He has a responisbility to ticket buyers/fans memebers, sponsors, local league, juniors as well as the other plyers.
Imagine how Peach would feel if he came out & said "none of this affects Greg chances of being re-signed".
There is nothing wrong with the comments & I am glad we have open comms with our CEO.

Exactly HH.. let's not start taking journos' word as gospel shall we?

Especially not over Sludge's word.

Even if the quote was inside inverted commas, I would still question the credibility of those wood duck reporters.

biggest crock of s#%t i have seen, it was a good driving tackle, nothing in it.

They better suspend a few more guys for three weeks by the end of the season or there is no consistency.

I have seen those types of tackles not even get penalised let alone put on report !

Perhaps some would be happier if Sludge came out and said

"We are so happy Greg Bird kneed some defenceless bloke in the head unprovoked, then followed his 10 week suspension up with another 3 week suspension. We cant wait for him to come back and get suspended once more. Oh, and to celebrate the diversity of his frequent offences, we're going to offer him a big upgrade on his contract."

What a load of shit.

Sludge's public comments are probably aimed at deflating Bird's heinously oversized ego - a great move if ever there was one. Then MAYBE we'll offer him a contract, but hopefully a reduced one. They should slug the git with the rest of that suspended fine from the kneeing incident also. Cant wait to see him back in the papers being taught how to colour in and read by sick four year olds.

Thats what you get for being a walking Brain Explosion, he needs a bit of discipline in his game, I dont think its unfair of sludge to make those comments, im sure everyone knows that anyway

Needs a bit of discipline? Didn't he have a perfect record before the kneeing thing?

Joey Johns has a far bigger record of brain explosions, and I don't see him missing half a season...

WWWWWWAAAAAAKKKKKKK

not quite

2003 Sharks vs Storm - charged with Grade 2 Contrary conduct (head slam on Mr Howe) - found guilty but escaped suspension due to downgrade

2001 Jersey Flegg semi playing for Knight got himself sent off for fighting leaving the defending premiers short. They lost the game with 12 men

no choir boy and a fair history of poor discipline

Geez thats a terrible record when you look at it in that light.
You wonder why he has any hard core supporters, even though they are few.
Excuses all done with.

Not to mention some nude streaking he also did in 2001, which cost him some sort of scholarship.

ohh puuhhleeese

i hate being birds advocate

but the guy is 20 years old ffs

and apart from the stupid kneeing incident his record is not extraordinary

and reefy imagine your reaction if sludge came out and said publically "we are concerned about peacheys declining speed and injury problems and these will be taken into account when we negotiate with them"

Doesnt really have any supporters of note though, does he?

Whats a supporter of note ... you SS

He's having a go at either me or Pogo, I reckon.

We are Bird supporters. but SS is saying here that he has no respect for us. We are not noteworthy.

He has done that. Whats your point?

I'm glad he has done that. Gives me the chance to flick some banana cake at him when I see him & tell him to resign peach.
Gives other supporters to yah or voice their disapproval.
Again, I'm glad with the open communications to Rogers.

Double standards lolesi ... Birds was just a f#$king good tackle, not a spear tackle.
So what if the guy went past horizontal, there was nothing deliberate in it.

So i guess rather than attempt a driving tackle, he would have been far better off giving Carmont 6 quick punched in the head !
