Name me another back who can get the ball away under those circumstances.
In order of offloading ability & have played in the backs.

He is a player of ours who comes back from 10 weeks suspension.

No other bastard in the league worl is going to let him forget his suspension and give him encouragement, so how about we, the fans of his OWN CLUB be the ones who at least give him a chance to prove himself ??

Come on guys, He's far from perfect and far from the next great 5/8 , but he has a long way to go yet, and will be playing for a contract too, so he may well surprise tomorrow, we NEED him to stand up if our TEAM is to win, so let's get behind him, get that cocky little tail of his up high, and let him arrogantly, egotistically , HOG his way to 3 tries and a win for all I care ! A confident , arrogant , FIRING young 5/8 is far better than the options we have run out for the past 10 weeks.

He needs to tackle, tackle , tackle, and provide a genuine option on the short side, working well with Hilder.

 Top post Beeker.

We all have opinions on Bird but let's give him a big lift when he runs out for US. I wanna hear a big roar every time he touches it. Get behind him.

Wish i could be there, c'mon Birdy you owe us a biggin.
AND the reefy and ss show is alive and well:

In order of offloading ability & have played in the backs.
Peachey, Noddy, Dumas, Vagana, Gallen, Bailey.

Name me another 5/8 who ONLY runs and NEVER feeds the centres

What would this forum do without them

I say give him a go. He paid a heavy price for his crime. If the coach has faith in him then thats good enough for me.

Bird is a talent and will prove it over the next couple of seasons, as for not passing, who was he going to pass it too. In our early games I did not see too many support runners.

This kid has basically played one season (2003) in a distinctly under performing team. Even Brad Fittler wouldn't have lead us to glory with last years team.

To top it all off, there are a couple of clowns in here who think Kent is a better player ... sure glad they aren't the coach !

Go Birdy ... stick it to the clowns !

Unfortunately surely the only clown so far is you.
There are a few procedures to follow to ensure you end up a clown & you can consult a few other forum members who are very experienced in those areas. But you seem to be going very well on your own.
key thing when calling people names is to make sure you back it up with something substantial.
So therefore, clown, post the names of the people who have stated that kent is a better player than Bird.
I have heard Gallen. & that is true
I have heard Dumas & that is true
I have heard Aitken & that is true

So, clown, maybe you are confused by people saying, that kent deserves a shot after many good performances. That Kent seserves to have the same run that Bird hs head. i.e. 25 appearances for fugg all.
Your shot.

I was talking about Bird and Aitken. You obviously think Kent should be there before Bird, so perhaps Surely was talking about you. Are you the forum clown?

Definitely Kent should be there before Bird.
he's done more than enough to earn a crack. It's his turn.
As I said to somebody else, things likethis can cause problems within a club.
Wok Ryan refers to this as "rust".
He was always on mission to identify & cut out rust. But he, like many other Ryanites, failed to see that much of the time, they were the cause of the rust.
Kent not getting a shot, that he deserves, could have a huge impact on the players trying to crack it it at the club. Others will see it & think these guys have positions for life, why try. Even worse resentment can set in against players the club & the coach.
This is a very tricky situation & I cannot understand Rapers decision.
I have no problem with Bird playing his way back into first grade.
But a walk up start is a joke & a rust agent.
I wonder how many releases will be requested afterjune 30?

I think Bird is a strange sort of player...to be honest seems a tad pedestrian, and YES he is famous for being a hog.....

BUT we really havent seen his full potential as fore mentioned in a struggling side, this current side has a bit more ticker so lets get behind him..... I know I will!

BTW he played some great footy in 2002 in the semis(think it was his debut games).... but that was a long time ago,I feel that these next few weeks will make or break him.

Fair enough Reefy, I agree that Bird should have to play his way back into the side. I just think Kent was there to cover for Vagana and since Vags is playing Kent misses out. It's a shame because I really like Kent as well but I don't think he is the answer at 5/8th either.

I couldn't care less how Bird goes.
To tell the truth, if he scores 3 tries & plays brilliantly, I will be saying about time.
After 30 odd matches in top grade & producing nothing at all, it is the truth.
How many current PL players would improve after having a gift 30 games i nthe top grade. & knowing you won't getthe punt no matter how bad your defense is, how much you hog the ball, how much you can't kick, how ineffective your runs are.
We'd possibly have half of an OZ side.

According to today's papers, Rogers has told Birdy that he needs to perform if he wants a new contract. I hope Birdy does well today, but I'm not overly confident considering he hasn't played for 10 weeks. :|

 Didn't Artie Beetson always say that it takes 60 games to feel comfortable as a first grader. I doubt we'd have half the OZ side.

You have covered yourself well though Reefy, now you can't cop any flak if Bird does go well. I couldn't care less though. As long as Bird goes well and continues to do so, I'll be happy. If does go bad I'll expect 20 odd threads calling for his scalp as usual.

He will have bearing on this match one way or the other. Let's hope that "Fittler step" works for us.

BTR i would say raper has selected bird becaus we need a 5/8 not a centre, i personally thought he was playing ok befor his brain explosion. So may be we should give him a chance and lets see what he can do under rapers style.

Exactly right Blue, but don't expect the anti-Bird squad to give him any credit if he does go well. It'll just be "about time."
