Bird the next Wally??

I thought his best position was lock. But we need a big, strong 5/8 to play outside Noddy and cop the constant flack that comes with those passes. I've always thought that. Last one to do it successsfully IMO was Matty Johns. A physically inferior bloke could be dead by seasons end.

Noddy has already put Bird into hospital after one of his "hospital passes " (Newcastle game a few years ago). Bird is stronger and smarter these days and could handle the 5/8 position physically in both attack and defence. Kearney would struggle to be as effective as the opposition attack would be directed at him and reduce his attacking prowess. Personally I'd like to see Seymour / Bird combination. Send the Evil Garden Gnome to hooker.

stop blaming Kimmorley, im sick of it...still a top player, bird is still very unexperienced at Five Eighth, and he will need an experience half along side of him.

Bird is a good player but proclaiming him to be the next Wally is down right ridiculous, Bird is like 25 now, and is starting to become his own, he should of done that 5 years ago.

Yeah we're f**king sick of it as well.

Bird is a great player now who is 23, not 25. He's also been good for the last 3 seasons although 2 of those he was cut down by injury.

Meanwhile Kimmorley has been consistently average for the past 7 years with us.

Bird is showing some improvement at least. Noddy is going backwards!

You want Kimmorley - hes' yours.

I am very unexperienced in the player transfer market so youse can have him for free.

Put him alongside the youthfull Nige.

Cheers

Wally was the greatest I have seen so far.
A Lazy, chain smokin bald bloke who carved up the Blues almost every time.

then came Joey Johns
A drug takin fat arse freak that really could see stuff on a footy field ten minutes before anyone else.

nowadays...probably Inglis.
damn fluid in motion .

Bird ???.....is still flying well below the clouds ....but has hit a upward draught.

Please get your mate Rusty to buy out the dwarf's contract and he can be your starting half and then we can laugh at your club.
I'll take Tweetie over Noddy anyday.

Geez your club makes the semi's for the first time in an eon and you think you can start giving advise to every other clubs fans. Back to earth for you guys next year and I mean back to where you belong, wooden spooners.

Rabbitohs 2005 and Bronte,

No one on this board has said that Bird is as good as Lewis or will ever be as good as Lewis. The comparison was made in the paper and the people quoted are Daley, Fulton and Kenny who indicated that Bird had certain traits that reminded them of Wally Lewis. Rest assured that Daley, Fulton and Kenny have no love for Cronulla.

What most on here agree is that Bird has made rapid improvement under Ricky Stuart. His form in SOO and the Test indicate that he could be a very good player but needs to consistently replicate that form at club level. To suggest that Bird is the next Wally Lewis is way over the top and is just paper talk from bored journos trying to drum up some interest before the long off season. So if you want to have a dig about the comparison then have a go at Dean Ritchie, Daley, Fulton and Kenny.........
