Merrit is one of the most dangerous players in the game.
He looms up from fullback into the attack, running his angles, changing direction. His defence is solid, he can kick (for himself) at any time with great accuracy. His positional play is first rate, he has speed to burn, few other players can match him. Remember that try v Parra. That wasnt on, nothing was on. He kicked the ball with magnificent toe and timing, he sprinted into touch and back into play and he grounded the ball with incredible finesse. Should we talk about his drop goal? Was he not the leading try scorer in the whole game in a team that came last, just a few years ago? What a player?!
This is the stuff of rugby league dreams, things players spend their whole careers trying to emulate and most, sadly, fail. There has to be some "magic".
If hes not the first player selected, then hes the second.
"He can do things no other footballer in the game can" Jason Taylor 2007.
As solid as he is, Wesser isnt anywhere near him on any critereon imagainable.
Why Max isnt in SOO is a crime. Anyone who has followed his game knows that he should be a bloody kangaroo.
His heart is bigger than average too. So humble and noble. In real life he always plays down his achievements and credits them to luck. Its not luck. Its Max Magic.
He should be a pin-up boy for the game.
I am proud of Nathan Merrit and I am proud he plays for Souths. He is unique. He is uncompromising excellence as a rugby league player. The veritable, cat's whiskers.
A team that cant find a place for Max, deserves to be ridiculed and lectured by the most stupid of people. Its unimaginable.
