capewell will be getting be getting bigger and stronger as he matures and will either be a fullback or 5/8 in the future , attack he can do already , defence is his where he needs to show improvement and no reason why he cannot improve with age and strength. If not , Champion can always slot back into a 5/8 in my view , though i like him as inside centre.

GF do you want us to lose when Champion played 5/8 it was sher disaster Ben Lowe who is a Sutton type player or Simpson would do me for a stop gap 5/8 till Sutto is ok.

Appin ,
the players will show their improvement and ability and the coach will decide.
my view though is Champion has good hands and best ball passer outside of Sutton in the backs. He has matured and should have more confidence now to play if needed as the pivot. His defence now is also much stronger.he is not a small lad at 96kg and 186 cm and if there is a worry that Capewell and Sandow might have a defensive weaknesss , then champion would fix that.
I see lowe as a running forward who could play as a running outside centre .

The plan for this year is for Sutton to play lock. Their are some rumours doing the rounds that the neck injury he has is somewhat similar to that which has hampered Michael Greenfield for so many years so it's plausible that we may not get much football out of him at all this year. Either way, I don't think you will see him playing too much five eight this year, if at all.

DKOR,you know how to scare someone. To have the best forward pack will mean sweet fug all if we cannot plant the ball over the whitewash.

Its a big concern. Their are rumours all over the shop re: Sutto atm. So far the range is from missing a couple of weeks of pre-season, to missing a large chunk of the season.

You can just about guarantee that he won't be starting 5/8 come round 1 regardless. Guess we'll have to watch the training reports in the next few weeks to see how it all pans out.

Langy spent quite a bit of time with the Bears last year so my Cousin has a pretty good in with him. They got to know each other fairly well. If I hear any more I'll report back.

On the positive side, word is that the vibe around training is completely different with Lang around as opposed to JT. JT was seen as a bit of an authoritarian, where as Lang is a bit more open to suggestion. The boys are busily trying to give big Sam a new nickname and the word is that they feel they'll all get along well with him... As soon as they can work out what the f**k he is saying :D

His accent is causing a heap of laughs and some of the boys have asked for an interpreter to be brought in.

I'm wrapped. A couple of years ago when the likes of Vagana and Kidwell were playing with the Bears and the Bunnies, my cousin was a good source of info. That sort of closed off last year and I didn't get too much inside gossip. Now that Langs in charge it seems that info stream is open again so I should have some good stuff to post in here occassionally.

Sutton will be 5/8 even if he plays on crutches he is the best 5/8 at the club and possibly Australia so why would you play him lock he played there before & was ordinary 5/8 is his best position and thats where he will be!

if lang moves sutto out of the halves to bring in paea, then i say bring back JT! cause that would be ridiculous. a genuinely pig headed supporter could still argue suttos best position is lock... but no-one can argue that paea proved to be a nothing NRL player

With Pettybourne, Burgess and Taylor we have enough players to run out wide. Sutton is the perfect guy to put them in the gaps.

Dont forget Wesser, before his injury last year he followed Sutton and his very good lines, I think Merrit will struggle to find a place in the team. Pettybourne could be in for a record season of tries this season!

Hope you're joking, he'll be the first bloke selected.

I am serious, I hate to say it but I think Lang will prefer Wesser at FB due to his size and I dont think that Merritt will be on the wings as there is still a chance that the centres will need to include Taylor.
I would have
1 Rhys Wesser
2 Colin Best
3 Jamie Simpson
4 Beau Champion
5 Fetuli Talanoa
6 John Sutton
7 Chris Sandow
8 Luke Stuart
9 Issac Luke
10 Roy Asotasi
11 David Taylor
12 Sam Burgess
13 Michael Crocker

14 Eddy Pettybourne
15 Ben Ross
16 David Tyrrell
17 Jason Clark

LOLLLLLL ! Merritt was close to our best this year and has been that for the past few years along with Stuart.

He is by FAR our best back.
Ludicrous to say he wont be picked !
LOL !

I'd give Capewell a run until Sutton is fully fit. He was originally a halfback until he was switched to fullback. Has he played in the halves for Norths or NYC? I seem to recall him playing one game at five eight in the RTR game and he was close to man of the match.

Merrit is one of the most dangerous players in the game.

He looms up from fullback into the attack, running his angles, changing direction. His defence is solid, he can kick (for himself) at any time with great accuracy. His positional play is first rate, he has speed to burn, few other players can match him. Remember that try v Parra. That wasnt on, nothing was on. He kicked the ball with magnificent toe and timing, he sprinted into touch and back into play and he grounded the ball with incredible finesse. Should we talk about his drop goal? Was he not the leading try scorer in the whole game in a team that came last, just a few years ago? What a player?!

This is the stuff of rugby league dreams, things players spend their whole careers trying to emulate and most, sadly, fail. There has to be some "magic".

If hes not the first player selected, then hes the second.

"He can do things no other footballer in the game can" Jason Taylor 2007.

As solid as he is, Wesser isnt anywhere near him on any critereon imagainable.

Why Max isnt in SOO is a crime. Anyone who has followed his game knows that he should be a bloody kangaroo.

His heart is bigger than average too. So humble and noble. In real life he always plays down his achievements and credits them to luck. Its not luck. Its Max Magic.

He should be a pin-up boy for the game.

I am proud of Nathan Merrit and I am proud he plays for Souths. He is unique. He is uncompromising excellence as a rugby league player. The veritable, cat's whiskers.

A team that cant find a place for Max, deserves to be ridiculed and lectured by the most stupid of people. Its unimaginable.
