cutie doesn't play rugby league anymore and I don't remember Dave Q saying that Merrit should be selected at fullback.

Sutton has to be 6 Taylor & Burgess will run off him all day and create havoc for the opposition I cannot see Lang moving a match winner for his natural position. To play Paea at 5/8 would be suicide!
especially defensively.
Posted these stats a while ago to defend Merritt's defence (and reliability). Haven't done it compared to other wingers but I'm sure he'd stack up.
Merritt - 23 games for 30 missed tackles (1.30), 23 errors (1.00)
Patten - 25 games for 37 missed tackles (1.48), 31 errors (1.24)
Bowen - 20 games for 40 missed tackles (2.00), 28 errors (1.40)
Slater - 25 games for 50 missed takles (2.00), 43 errors (1.72)
Gidley - 21 games for 34 missed takles (1.62), 38 errors (1.81)
Hayne - 25 games for 41 missed takles (1.64), 34 errors (1.36)
Boyd - 22 games for 29 missed takles (1.32), 21 errors (0.95)
McKinnon - 21 games for 43 missed takles (2.05), 32 errors (1.52)
K.Hunt - 23 games for 49 missed takles (2.13), 24 errors (1.04)
Nice work Hunters, very interesting stats, I dont think our Manly buddy is still on his soap-box!
Yes Baron, it was a strange Xmas, not a real one so to speak because someone at home got sick and I had to take that person to the doctors and hospital, so the Xmas dinner was consumed by two people at about 11pm on Christmas night.
There wasnt one really big present opening, it was done in dribs and drabs, here and there, there was no ceremony... the tree still sits there, symbolic of the Xmas we didnt have!
But hey, the kids and everyone are now 100%, Im still on hols (sort of), so Ive got nothing to whinge about.
they were comparing wesser over meerit. Anyhow there's still a bucketload of wingers in the nrl as good as or better than merrit - especially defensively.

I've also seen plenty of players run straight over the top of him as well.

Baron, our short freindship is paying dividends, but...
Quality in tackling is important.
I have seen Max cut down plenty of guys in one-on-one situations and I have seen us win games for the whole side based solely on his defence.
This weird myth that Max has some kind of defensive questions, take it from me and all the Souths faithful who watch most if not all of his games, this myth is a lie and it is bullsh*t.
The selectors dont like him. He didnt help himself with his mundine racial comment a few years ago, sure but at the end of the day, he is the man I want beside or behind me out on the park with 120kg behemoths are running right me.
Max and Luke.
Technique, style and heart= everything.
Max is the truth, hes the defensive real-deal who just so happens to be able to attack like lightning.
I would bet my life and my kids life on it. I cant get tougher than that.
Dont let the drizzle cloud your normally fine league judgment Baron buddy.
You only live once, dont stuff it up for fantasy about our Max!
Thats why Newk is laughing, he cant believe people are questioning it. I am horrified myself. Funny how people are!!
Have a peaceful NYE Baron, dont go out, defend the house like I will be doing from drunken morons.
Seems to me that you havent seen anything at all, maybe a book of rarely-used quotes.
But there was Stewart full of piss...perhaps... with pure fugging evil in his heart.
Kindly give us a quotation for that one Mr Orwell.
ummmmmmmmm...........yeah................. ok mate.
Merritt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wolfman
Merritt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wolfman
FMD I'll actually agree with this.
If Merritt is anything, he is consistent.
Saw him play for Newtown a few years back (when they were with Cronulla) once, bloody good to watch.
Thing is though NT, when he left us to go to the Sharks, he wasn't much defensively.
He came back and had bulked up quite a bit and was a completely different player.
And he hasn't looked back since.
