Re: Gal - that's one thing us Aussies do badly - look for a scapegoat...

Have met Gal, and he is just like any other 'footy bloke' you'll see at hundreds of league grounds across NSW/QLD any Saturday of the year. Top bloke just doin his best to play good footy.

He doesn't deserve the flak!!

Now Smith has just suspended Aauva from the Nrl . So is it okay if Todd comes back to the Sharks next year and we suspend him after we win the comp. Works for the Bunnies. Keogh needs to lunch with Packer or we get Richo back as CEO to pull those strings.

I'd say they've set a dangerous precedent, but it's hardly a precedent when there is no consistency at all.

Todd who!!!.I am getting on with life and the new contracted players.
Todd has had more chances ,than any one I know. The list is a mile long.Ask Raiders/Roosters/Sharks in fact the Goulburn constabulary.

The clown from Souths had a legal case to be finalised before hammer time by the NRL.IMO he perhaps should haave been hit with a 2 year ban.I'll go with the penalty in place.

Interesting article in the Telecrap today...Before you roll your eyes, I'm having a beer at the pub & it's on the bar.

NRL CEO Dave Smith is talking about punishments to players such as Gallen & Carney, among others. He says of Carney:

"He was sacked at Cronulla because, aside from the photo of him urinating in his mouth being widely circulated & portraying the game in the worst possible light, there were specific undertakings in his contract with Cronulla concerning his behaviour.

The Sharks could have enacted the clause after earlier incidents but gave him several chances before the photo ended it all".

Pretty much what I thought.

I said it a while ago, I saw him out on the piss a lot! Most nights of the week.

Not sure what that says about me but I knew it had to be getting covered up a bit.

I saw some dumb shit that never made it to the papers. He was also dragging Graham with him a lot.

I wouldn't be surprised if Graham has a cracker year this year with Carney gone.

First a convicted sex offender is allowed back, then a convicted drug trafficker and now it's been confirmed for this grub. In the article there is a statement about it being an assault - man v man. What 'man' jumps on another's head whilst lying on the ground? One of the lowest acts I can think of.

Just about there for me.

Exactly, one of the most violent acts seen and Smith lets him come back.
Lucky he didn't call anyone a bad word!

We are turning into the NFL, convicted criminials welcomed with open arms, this is how they work.

Then you hear the 25 min quarters all for advertising, again sounds like NFL.

Next they will stop the game if no points at say the 10 min or 20 min mark to slot advertisement in.

I like the NFL because it is the NFL, we are the NRL and should stay the NRL

Whilst not approving of the actions of TC and Gall, the lenient treatment of Packer is unfathomable. I believe TC and Gall got what they deserved and Packer didnt.

As for NFL. I don't like it because of the constant stoppages etc. What next for the NRL? Time outs?

I haven't read up on this case, but I imagine the explanation would be that he served his time and is considered rehabilitated by the legal system.

In the case of TC and Gal, no suspension or fine would mean they went unpunished, so action had to be taken. Further, the TC issue was a decision by OUR board, not the NRL - so it's unfair to place his treatment as a consistency issue with the NRL.

BUT, the NRL is f**ked...that Mitchell Pierce was never punished for trying to grope someone (and missing) is hypocritical as shit since Ferguson was sacked hard for landing on his target. Both of them are just as much of a prick as each other... luckily they'll get to play in the same team this year

I'm not real sure how the system works, but Will Packer even be allowed to stay in the country on a working Visa? isnt he an NZ resident?

Chewy, there is a case for him to be deported as he has been convicted:

Criminal deportation under section 200 of the Migration Act 1958

For the purposes of this direction, a potential deportee is any person who is not an Australian citizen and who has
been convicted in Australia of an offence for which the person was sentenced to imprisonment for life or to
imprisonment for a period of not less than one year, but only if:
(a) the person had been in Australia as a permanent resident either for a period of less than 10 years, or for periods
which (when added together) total less than ten years, at the time when the offence was committed; or
(b) the person is a New Zealand citizen who has been in Australia as an exempt non-citizen or as the holder of a
special category visa for a period of less than 10 years, or for periods which (when added together) total less than ten
years, when the offence was committed.
For the purpose of determining whether the person is a potential deportee, all of the following considerations are
irrelevant:
. the length of time that the person had spent in Australia at the time when the sentence was imposed;
. whether the person is actually imprisoned for a year;
. whether a non-parole period is set at less than one year if the sentence of imprisonment is one year or more.

It might if the victim, his family, Immigration or a public group launch a campaign. It might.

And now Hpoate jr has been sent to the bin for a serious assault on a bloke - mistaken identity.
