If you were a true music snob then neither of these bands would have ever been a blip on your radar ...

I'm a music snob who tries not to be. Blink is probably the only terrible sh*t I listen to anymore, and even so only when I'm drunk and with certain company. Although you could say I'm failing, look at my 'Cool Person Test' thread...

And yes, Danny Carey is deserving of offerings of the sexual nature.

That's fair enough Danish, each to their own.

Personally, bands like Green Day and Blink bore me because they don't actually do anything.

Simple riffs, simple time signatures (it's always 4/4), no "wow" factor.

See, Danny Carey has the "Wow" factor. You can hear the jazz influences in his drumming. Polyrhythms everywhere. And Tool change time signatures regularly. It all adds up to a very interesting band.

Same with Dream Theater - brilliant.

But I'll never crucify anyone for not liking a band, only for liking rubbish :D

I do actually enjoy some of Tool's music (particularly the stuff on enima) but I get really sick of their "we are just such f**king geniuse" attitude.

Coming out behind a f**king sheet at a concert and demanding no one take pictures of you just screams "I am a wanker" to me, and for that reason I simply refuse to watch them live (I have had several opportunities as well).

Tool and U2, despite being clearly polar opposites in terms of music, have both managed to have the same effect on me.... great music, shame about the band members and die hard fans being absolute twats.

Personally I find Matt Bellamy to be a superior musician to all of them.

Blink are no doubt a very simple, straight forward band. But then again so were ACDC, Metallicca, the Stones, the Beetles and countless other legendary groups (not that I am putting blink at the same level of some of those groups)

Sometimes creating simple music that is still original is a great talent in itself.

I agree, but then simple and sh*t are two very different things.

AC/DC was brilliant despite the relative straight-forwardness of their songs. And of course they had the Young brothers.

Blink on the other hand ...

Haha fair enough...

As you say each to their own. The one bad thing I will say about blink is that they were utterly useless as a live act up until their last tour of Oz.

id rather be entertained by fun songs than be impressed by boring 10 minute metal guitar solos, but thats just me.

wont say my opinions on green day, but they are lame. Blink have some fun songs, i have their greatest hits album and i listen to it sometimes. Blink for the win

I don't want to hear a 10-minute guitar solo either. Luckily metal bands rarely play solos.

What I do enjoy - and what is a definite trait of metal and some rock bands - are long musical interludes. Dream Theater often write songs that extend well over the 10-minute mark. Absolutely brilliant stuff.

Opeth too, masters at it.

I love Dream Theater, but my god do Liquid Tension Experiment have it all over em.

I'm not gonna speak for anyone else, but Blink for me is about nostalgia, I can't forget (nor do I want to) what it was like being like 13 and listening to the Mark Tom and Travis Show while going to sleep.

 I remember being 15 and listening to the sample tracks in HMV with my mate. We were laughing madly at all the dirty jokes between the tracks and then the blowjob song (you know the one)!

Blink was 1000 times the band +44 is. If Blink made another album i couldnt imagine how good it would be but Tom decided he was the best song writer and musician ever which is a complete joke as all AVA songs sound like they should be sung in a church or something.
+44 imo are missing something

I actually think +44 are pretty close to what Blink would have sounded like on their next album had they stayed together.

Blink 182 by a mile. Angels and Airwaves is also fantastic, probably better than Blink - AVAs first album was better than their 2nd though.

Seriously?

The Adventure is awesome, but for the most part We Don't Need to Whisper was very same-ish the whole way through.

Blink >>>> AVA = +44 >>> Boxcar

Well it's basically the same band minus a singer. But yes, awesome, awesome band.

Mike Portnoy is a God.

My thinking as well. I'd say it would have been a little edgier but pretty much down the same road.
