Blockbuster to be played at MCG

October 13, 2008

AUSTRALIA'S blockbuster home World Cup qualifier against Japan on June 17 will be played at the MCG, Football Federation Australia has announced.

The match is the last scheduled qualifier and could well determine if Australia book their ticket to South Africa in 2010.

The FFA also announced that Sydney will host two other World Cup qualifiers – Australia v Uzbekistan on April 1 and Australia v Bahrain on June 10.

Australia's full qualifying schedule is:

* 15 October 2008, Australia v Qatar, Brisbane
* 19 November 2008, Bahrain v Australia, Bahrain
* 11 February 2009, Japan v Australia, Tokyo
* 1 April 2009, Australia v Uzbekistan, Sydney
* 6 June 2009, Qatar v Australia, Doha
* 10 June 2009, Australia v Bahrain, Sydney
* 17 June 2009, Australia v Japan, Melbourne

Australia need to finish in the top two of their group to qualify automatically for South Africa 2010.

sydney get two games and melbourne get what may be a dead rubber. sounds good IMO.

Yeah I'm happy with this. Would've liked to see Nakamura and just have a fun time in a probably unimportant game but this works out better for us.
