What is the rule and what is the interpretation? Is it like Basketball where you've got to be in front and stationary. Or is it sufficient to be in front even if you are still moving? Or something else entirely?

Can still be moving provided you do not change your line. Otherwise if you get there quick enough you are allowed to stand your ground.

But you have to be in front? You're not allowed to run into the chaser, he has to run into you? If that makes sense.

Changing line is illegal????

Everyone does it every game. Its ridiculous. People run at 90 degrees to the play, referee, "yep. That's ok. They didnt change their line once they had lined up the guy to block".

It's a stain on the underpants of the NRL.
merkins stand their ground, 1 or 2 stand around the player catching the ball.
Should be allowed to push the merkins out of the way.

Hodgkinson ran for a season high 17 metres on the weekend. 15 of those were straight across field as a casual Blocker.

Agreed. Why stop there though. You should be allowed to pants them or knee them in the money maker.

Blight on the game.

As long as the defenders are moving in a straight line towards where the ball is going, I don't have a problem with them ending up standing in front of the catcher. It's when they change line, and don't have eyes for the ball, rather the chasers, and interfere with them contesting the ball.
