You can stratch joel monaghan from calculations, apparently he was vying off with cooper and quinn to snear one of a wing or centre position. He's done himself an injury and will miss 4 weeks apparently

I think they'll go with
1. Stewart
2. Quinn (which is a selection i do not rate one bit)
3. Gasnier
4. Cooper
5. Hayne
6. Bird
7. Giddley
8. Kite
9. Buderus
10. Mason
11. Fitzgibbon
12. Hoffman
13. Gallen

14. Topou
15. Cross
16. Laffranchi
17. Heighnington

thats a really ordinary side. the halves and starting front row, in particular, are shocking. I don't rate Quinn either, QLD would be licking their lips at the thought of facing him.

unfortunately, I think you wont be far off - although White will be in the team (hopefully for Kite, he is horrible), and Fitzy (and prob Heighnington - they will pick a utility of some sort) wont.

4.Lyon (i hate him but he's better than cooper)
5. Who Knows!! The only person tall enough to out jump inglis/folau would be Grothe and he just isn't good enough at the moment - but who knows what the selectors will do
6. Bird
7. Gidley
8. Kite
9. Buderus
10. Mason
11. Hoffman
12. Laffranchi

14. Finch

17. Hindmarsh - the bloke might not be in career best form but he will bust his guts more than any other player

I think Cross should have taken tonight off because i think he has played himself out of a blues jersey.
O'Meley will probably get his spot.

I just hope they don't pick that skirt White.

Maybe throw stewart on the wing and Gidley at FB? dunno. Just throwing it out there. They moved Mini to wing for Hornby when everyone thought Mini was untouchable. Could happen.

I'd like to pick Anasta but I think Hindy could be a difference maker in defence.

Lyon was far from impressive in origin last year and has not been setting the world on fire for Manly, I can't see him getting picked. Hang on it's NSW selectors picking the side isn't it? anything can happen Menzies might be in the centres!

Good thinking. I change my centre pick from Lyon to Menzies.

Just to show my colours up front, I'm an Eels supporter with a fondness for the Rabbitohs. Just so no one accuses me a of Knights bias. This is just what I think would be the best team based on form and strategic imperatives.

1. Kurt Gidley
2. Jaryd Hayne
3. Mark Gasnier
4. Matt Cooper
5. Amos Roberts (My bolter, just ahead of Anthony Quinn.)
6. Greg Bird
7. Jarrod Mullen
8. Brent Kite
9. Danny Buderus (Michael Ennis - Shadow)
10. Brett White (Ray Cashmere - Shadow)
11. Anthony Laffranchi
12. Paul Gallen
13. Anthony Tupou

14. Braith Anasta
15. Willie Mason
16. Mark O'Meley
17. Andrew Ryan

Brett Stewart might feel unlucky missing out to Gidley, but Gids is the form NSW fullback and offers the most in terms of versatility - easy back up half back and hooker. Additionally, he can carve up Queensland with dummy half runs in the crucial stages of the game, as he does for Newcastle ... plus you get the advantage of established combinations with 1, 7 and 9.

Cooper is definitely down on form, but I believe experience and established combinations work in his favour and gives him a slight edge. It's amazing that pickings are so slim for NSW in the centre three-quarters. Arguably Gasnier (and maybe Hayne, although that could just be my bias) is the only in-form elite quality centre-winger for NSW. Compare that to the other crowd.

As much as I hate Anasta, he deserves a spot and he is experienced and versatile ... you don't need a second hooker in squad with Gidley and Bird both capable of switching in a pinch. Gidley to hooker and Hayne to fullback, just means Anasta could spend some time in the centres.

Edit - Oops. Got busy at work and took too long to post. WOW, some surprises in there. Hornby over Gidley is fookin' bonkers. The official team is a lot smaller than mine too. Where's the beef? Crazy.
