I seriously doubt Burt would be any chance of playing Origin, this year at least. Even when Hodgson had a big year in 2001 he didn't make Origin until the following year. If Burt has a big year this year, which based on current form suggests he probably will, realistically he will be in there with a shot next year I think.

Also, I don't think Gould has a big opinion of our boys either (Lyon & Hindmarsh aside). All the more reason to prove him wrong I guess.

If Gould alone picked the team the it would be the entire Roosters 1st grade team with Roosters reserve graders coming in for the likes of Morley and Hodges.

I disagree
I have heard Gould give Burty many wraps! Im telling you straight Gould is a closet Parra lover. He loves the Eels!!
Although Burt is no chance of playing S.O.O. in 2004 and it really should not even be discussed.

You have one at the back yourself.

Can you honestly say that Wesser, Slater or Shifcofske are the best defensive fullbacks in the game?

I DO think Schif is the best defensive fullback around. Name one better. How many trysavers does he pull off. One of the safest in the league under the high ball and defusing kicks also. I don't think he is the best fullback running around, his running game is not as good as Lockyer and Mini and obviously Lockyer can slot in at playmaker and no other fullback can. Best DEFENSIVE fullback for sure. Mclinden, Graham and Drew are our liabilities in defence but don't try and say Schif, nothing wrong with his defence.

OK, how about Lockyer?

I don't think Shif is THAT DAMN GOOD in defence.

My point was, anyway, that fullbacks are very rarely brilliant at making one on one tackles nowadays. Their job is to field kicks and attack mainly. If a big winger like Grothe or Rooney were to make a break and go one on one with a FB, the winger would most likely come out on top.

Not that Damn good. Then you don't watch that many Raiders games. Not surprising considering the powers that be have their favourites and we are never on free to air.

Lockyer can defend. I don't think he is as good in defence as Schif. You'll see how many get around him on Saturday.

Here is my original post. It was one of your Turkeys who had a go at Schif about his defence. I just tried to put the record straight. I have no problem adding I think Burt is a good player, just struggles in the defensive department. I think he is quick and has a good step. Generally doesn't make many mistakes. Was very impressed with his first try last Saturday where he fained to go one way and turned Seage inside out while changing pace. Could do with more ball in his hands, however Parra are like us in that you don't have a recognised 5/8 (Wagon) and therefore less ball gets out wide.

Di*khead, This is a FORUM. A place where views are discussed and debated. I don't think I have said anything wrong or derogitory against the Eels. I feel I have made a positive contribution to the thread. If you or anyone else can't see that then enjoy a forum full of one eyed Parra fans where constructive input is not posted.

c'mon guys (s)he is from Canberra give the person a break :D

seriously though, Schifcofske is a very good fullback but not as good as a lot of Raiders fans think he is even if Lockyer is named in #6 for QLD, Wesser will still beat Schicofske to the QLD #1 jersey.

but Burt has been very under-rated his form before injury last year showed he may have finally been ready. The current Burt is a lot different a player to the pre 2001 Burt.

Chill Pills one and all.

Burt can tackle in the front line, where he can get side on, but is terrible on his line. Thats a fact. He has bordered on soft on a couple of tries so far.

But that a side, i am on eof the people who prior to the start of the season thought he was a real chance for Country, and if injuries occur, S.O.O also. And i still believe this. His opposition for country fullback are Peachey and Patten. Patten is horrible and got the jersey last year by default, and Peachey, to his credit has gone pretty well so far this year with a new coach.

So Burt will have to continue to fire, he won't be able to get in as a goal kicker either as Fitzgibbon will be the kicker. But if Tahu continues to struggle with injury, he still may have a chance.
