He didn't have his best game for us against panthers but given the opposition he went well. Most of his runs he managed to pick up 20 odd metres. We love you sonny <3
2004 was a year defined by the Rookies. We've seen some great names retire only to see the great talent of the future emerge.
Of those you listed (My Choice in Bold)
Topou-Powerful damaging runner with some excellent ball skills
Hunt- A freak. Showed a complete range of attacking skills this year Williams- Will be the games best player in a few seasons.
Stewart-What's scary is the fact he'll get faster and faster. Safe as houses.
Marshall- Shame he's always injured. A prodigous talent
hopefully the Rule will be changed so players like SBW will be able to play state of origin.... i think that if that is changed by next year we will see SBW, hunt and Topuo playing state of origin... any coach would love them in their side... just really talented youngsters and i think with in 2 years those three will be in the AUS team for sure....
i'm sick of this "hunt should be eligible blah blah blah" bullcrap. there's no way hunt, judging by what he did this year, deserves a QLD spot. as good as he is, Matt Bowen, Wesser and Slater are light years ahead of him. I would also prefer Ty Williams to him (because of his defence and safety), although the difference between them is much smaller.
SBW is a kiwi, he should never be allowed to play for AUS.
Anthony Tupou is Aussie and he will most probably be there in years to come.
K Hunt has made himself available for QLD so i guess he wants to play for Aussie.
He should do, one can only hope that next season will see Carney getting some good game time instead of the bullshit 10 minutes a game he got this year for 3 weeks
To those who say 'Hunt crumbled under pressure'...my reply is "you did not watch all Bronco games this season and base this naive opinion on one costly error in judgement vs the Cowboys".
Hunt stood up this season and we did not lose much with him in the number 1 jersey which was likely to happen given we were moving Lockyer to five-eight. Under the high ball, Hunt fumbled something like 3 balls...not bad for one who succumbs to pressure.
As for the question, I would not trade Hunt for any rookie in the NRL. If I could select one player from the rest, I would not hesitate in selecting Sonny Bill Williams who would be a long term replacement for the retiring Tallis.
This is quite a rookie class in 2004, I only hope in 5 years time we are still heralding these guys as superstars and not guys who failed to live up to their potential.
Sonny Bill, Tupou and Brett Stewart in that order. Stewart shits on Hunt as a fullback, but doesnt get the raps he deseres cos he plays in a shit side. Sonny Bill is the best player of the rookies and tupou not far behind. Hunt is over rated and Marshall was injured so you cant really judge him.
