I have a feeling this might be unique to my household, but we call any toastie/jaffle maker a "Breville" on account of the fact the first one we ever had was a Breville branded one.... The one we have now is some other brand, but my missus still asks me if I want "a ham and cheese toastie in the Breville" whenever she makes some....

Kiwis might be able to help me here.

The Jandal which is short for "Japanese sandal". Some dude in the 1950s started producing them but I don't know if he registered the name "Jandal".

It's pretty common, as a kid most people I knew called them brevilles.
