Braylon Edwards traded to Jets

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets on Wednesday morning, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Jets agreed to send key special teams player Jason Trusnik and draft picks to Cleveland, Schefter reported. Terms of the deal were still being finalized early Wednesday.

In Edwards, the Jets obtained a receiver that gives rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez the legitimate deep threat that the Jets have lacked -- and a player facing an NFL investigation for off-the-field trouble.

The league is probing whether Edwards violated the league's conduct policy following accusations he assaulted a friend of NBA star LeBron James outside a Cleveland nightclub on Monday night.

Edwards has been involved in other off-field incidents, a factor commissioner Roger Goodell considers when handing out any discipline.

In March, Edwards was partying with suspended wide receiver Donte' Stallworth in Miami the night Stallworth later drove drunk and killed a pedestrian. Edwards was not with Stallworth at the time of the accident.

Last November, Edwards was fined $150 and given 30 hours of community service after he was found guilty of driving 120 mph.

Edwards, a fifth-year veteran from Michigan, has caught 10 passes for 139 yards this season for the winless Browns. For his career he has 238 catches for 3,697 yards and 28 touchdowns, but faced criticism in Cleveland last season for the number of passes he dropped.

Looks like Cleveland wasn't big enough for Edwards and LeBron!

Depending on what draft picks they got, this could be a good deal for the Browns ... however, I think this really upgrades the Jets offense and they could be one hell of a sleeper this year with the defense they have and if Sanchez plays solid football.

Braylon Butter Hands is a scrub. Dont have any interest in seeing him drop passes in a different coloured jersey.

i droped this clown in one of my fantasy leagues. Traded him in for Josh Morgan. I might rue that decision now

Can't catch when your confidence is low.

He'll go to Jets...get more confidence and he'll be a top WR next season.

Pretty silly to make this trade the day that Crabtree gets signed, makes them look guilty as charged in relation to the tampering allegations.

He was a pro bowler with Derek Anderson at QB.

Rex Ryan seems to be doing everything right at the moment so it wouldn't surprise me to see this move come off.

The Browns don't look like they are capable of doing anything for the next few seasons so tanking this season and loading up on draft picks might be their only viable option.

It's a terrible trade for the Jets. They were looking for a home run hitter. Someone like a Brandon Marshall or Anquain Boldin would have made much more sense.

Braylon is simply not that good. Yes he is quick. But his hands are pathetic. Not to mention he is an absolute idiot. The guy was out at 2am in the morning after a game where he didn't even catch a pass and punches LeBron's mate. Is that the kind of guy you want on the team? He doesn't get it.

The Browns get a 3rd and 5th round pick (the third can elevate to a 2nd round pick) and got a great special teamer and a very decent WR. They end out on top in this one.

What's even funnier about this is that LeBron might be traded to the New York Knicks.

Edwards has wanted out of Cleveland for a while now. So he has got what he wanted.

He goes to a team that has a rookie cornerback. It will be interesting to see how he handles that.

#2 reciever is a position of need for the Jets. Cotchery has 23 catches for the season and there next best wide reciever is Brad Smith who has only three catches.

Damn, well its not like he wanted to be there anyway. Hopefully Cribbs can step up as a receiver and the rookies continue to improve.

The Browns will probably waste the 2 draft picks on players that don’t even make the team and Edwards could turn into a Plax, in the end they both loose.
If Edwards can work with another rookie QB with a potentially good defence for the next 18 months until things gel then who knows, after all he is what 27 years old plenty of time to prove the doubters wrong.

As good pick up for New York, bad move Browns (what's new?).

Edwards is a good WR who can move to the next level with a good coach and QB throwing him the ball. Ryan and Sanchez are both potentially that. I see this move paying off for New York. It's all positive for the Jets.

It wasn't a bad move for Cleveland. Randy Moss is a better WR but was in the same position as Braylon when he was in Oakland.

The Pats traded only a 4th round pick. The rest is history (and all time season records).

Time will tell, I think Edwards has an upside and will fit in well at the Jets.
