Kite hit for six
01aug06

"HIGH tackle victim Brent Kite could be sidelined for as long as six weeks but last night expressed relief his jaw wasn't broken by Fuifui Moimoi's wild hit during Saturday night's loss to Parramatta.

Kite was knocked unconscious for three minutes and has spent the last two days isolated at home recovering from the knock.

He could now miss the rest of the regular season.

Moimoi has been charged with a grade three reckless high tackle and is facing a seven match suspension if he takes the early guilty plea.

"Brent could be right in one or two weeks or it could take up to six weeks. There is no real way of telling at this stage," Manly doctor Paul Bloomfield said yesterday.

"It was quite a heavy hit . . . he was unconscious for three minutes.

"We will be taking our time with him and monitoring the situation very closely."

Speaking about the hit for the first time last night, Kite said he had no recollection of the incident.

"I don't remember anything," he said.

"But from what I've been told I'm lucky not to have any injuries.

"I suppose I am fortunate not to have a broken jaw or any fractures in my head."

Manly players described Moimoi's hit as one of the worst they had seen.

"I thought it was a very ordinary tackle," captain Ben Kennedy said.

"He (Moimoi) had a couple of swinging arms out there and obviously got Kitey with a good one.

"We were all concerned.

"He was out for a long, long time."

Prop Jason King added: "I was really concerned for Brent."

"It didn't look good for a little while there."

Moimoi's send off triggered a Sea Eagles comeback, with tries to winger Chris Hicks and Luke Williamson getting them within six points after they trailed 24-8.

But the home side held on to score a 13-point win and maintain their hopes of qualifying for the finals.

"It was a bit disappointing considering we had a lot to play for," Kennedy said.

"Too many mistakes, too many penalties, same old, same old.

"They were a man down and we were on a bit of a roll and they hung in pretty well.

"But I thought we could come back like last week."

Manly, who hold on to fifth spot, have the bye this weekend before meeting the Knights in Newcastle on Friday week."

kitey will be a big loss if he is away for a while.

when he's fired up this season, he's really lifted the team. it's a shame for this to happen at this time, as he's had a great season so far.

moimoi will have a long holiday to work on his tackling technique i guess.....
