I hear your whole team really impressed at Coffs, I can't find any good press on your halves in any article I read...funny.

Oh wait, Jamaal Lolesi went well for you. you sold him off, now I remember.

Apology accepted. ;-) Finch's contract for 3 years is $300,000. $100,000 per year.

Right-o -- I'm glad he's not toooo overpayed then. Oh wait, he still is :)

I'm just geeing you up, I have nothing really against Finch, and I felt sorry for him at Canberra. He had too much pressure on him just for being "Andrew Johns' ballboy" -- big Mal kept saying he would be the next superstar... it's hard to live up to.

Have to admit he has had some shocking games though.

yea but we (raider fans) all know that drew at half is a dud option, we dont pretend its a solid investment 8)

Wait untill Macca is back at half, drew coming on as a utility and campo is playing 5/8th

To be honest, many Rooster fans don't sing Finch's praises. I just think he has alot of potential and that if anyone can make a Champion out of him Ricky Stuart can. Ricky was one of the best halfbacks that Australia has seen and I have every confidence that he will bring out the best in Finch.

Ben Kennedy left the Raiders for about $300,000 a year.

No offence Penelope but I shared the same concerns as gaterooze about the amount that you quoted. Would you be able to elaborate on how you found out that that is what he is on or give a reference. Im sure that you are completely credible, its just that Im new here and need some sort of proof before I can give your assertion complete credence.

I remember at the time that along with the Roosters, South Sydney, St George and the Broncos were rumored to be chasing Finch. 100k seems a little low for such demand and when you consider that Payten was on 200k+ it seems even more unbelievable.

My Lord, you have a choice between luke 'please don't run at me' Dorn (Whose actually a specialist 5/8) and Canberra's Golden boy.

Please, just put Wing at Halfback and be done with it  .

Rohan, it was 18 months ago. We had lost Paul Green round one, and Justin Holbrook had been injured for the remainder of the season. I can't find the articles on the net and the Roosters site has archived all the posts and articles that relates to that year. I remember that it was $300,000 all up for his three year contract with us as there was alot of hoohar and debate about Finch joining us.

Sorry, I couldn't find the internet articles but the newspapers archive them after a while, so I can't find anything.

Were you there Ozzie?

I was and he was certainly not booed from the field. Only the selection of him as man of the match was booed because he did not deserve it. The boo wasnt even that big. He had a shocking game and had just thrown one of his patented offloads to the opposition when the result was announced. Whoever (Robert Finch?) picked him as man of the match should of been shot.

wasn't it the game against newcastle?? when he kicked the ball into touch on the full and lost the game...

No it wasnt the game against Newcastle but I cant remember who.

It was the game against Newcastle actually. He and Andrew Johns swapped shorts at the end of it. At least he made the error whilst trying to win a match. A bit if initiative was shown, but it was poor execution.

I think Brett Finch is becoming a good player and has improved a lot since coming to Sydney.

Whilst I also think Canberra are a better team with McLinden at halfback. So it looks like all parties have benefitted really.

alot of canberra fans including myself (despite initial cursing) were quite pleased about finch in that game, as you said at least he went down fighting

its those other absolute shockers that are far to common in his game that pissed raider fans off

BTW your absolutly right, Macca was always a half, just took elliot to unleash him

Southern Rooster you got it wrong - it wasnt Newcastle:

Raiders fans spam Finch

NRL A flood of derogatory emails labelling Brett Finch a traitor have raised fears that he may become a target for disgruntled Raiders fans at the club's next home game against Newcastle.

Finch announced on Tuesday he would quit the Raiders at the end of the season to join the Roosters on a three-year deal.

The young halfback has made it clear that his decision to leave was a difficult one and he has promised to give his all for the Canberra club for the rest of his contract.

That pledge apparently was not enough for some Raiders fans, who have bombarded coach Matt Elliott, the club and The Canberra Times with emails and letters slamming Finch for being disloyal and demanding that he be dropped.

Elliott is concerned that the matter may come to a head at the Raiders' next home game against Newcastle on July 14.

"I'm really disappointed about how some of our fans have interpreted the situation with Brett," Elliott said yesterday.

"I have received a heap of emails where Brett has been attacked for being disloyal.

"That is not the case at all. Brett does more work in the community with schools and junior rugby league than any other player at the club. He always puts in at training and he has always given his best for the Raiders."

Since storming on to the first-grade scene three seasons ago as an 18-year-old, Finch has been forced to endure a stormy relationship with the Raiders' faithful.

Many felt that Finch was given preferential treatment because his father Robert was the club's football manager.

When local junior Andrew McFadden quit the Raiders last season to link with Parramatta, many fans held a grudge against Finch.

The love-hate relationship hit a low point late last season when Finch was booed from the field after a 22-36 loss to the Northern Eagles at Canberra Stadium.

Finch had the chance to walk out on the Raiders there and then, but decided to take up a one-year option to stay. Article continues so check out link if you want to see the rest.

Furthermore, as I have said he was not booed from the ground, that is a popular misconception, only the selection of him as man of the match was booed.

I do agree with you and R69 that it was a good move for both parties.

Thanks Penelope, I had a look on the net and in the Canberra Times archives as well but couldnt find any reference. Guess id have to check out the archives of a paper that wouldnt have any qualms about publishing someones salary - ie Telegraph

I think if it is 100k its a fair price for Finch, I know of worse players that get more than that.

I meant the game he kicked out on the full was against Newcastle. Not the game he was booed. They were different games.
