Putting it bluntly we need to get rid of the pisshead culture in the club.

All clubs are getting a lot more serious about this type of thing and doing their best to cut it down.

I'd like to see us do the same.

From this mornings Newcastle Herald.

The trouble started at about 8.00pm when Johns asked barmaids to turn on the jukebox. The barmaid explained she couldn't because a band was about to start playing. Johns continued to ask barmaids to turn on the jukebox, which prompted security to ask them to leave. Carney was thrown out of the bar after becoming aggressive and argumentative. Johns left of his own accord. Carney continued on outside Shouting "we haven't done anything" "I just want to finish my beer" He then stormed back in the bar A struggle started while Johns tried to defuse the situation. Carney is reported to have told patrons "Idon't care what happens, I don't care if the media finds out". Johns told him "well actually you should worry mate". It also points out Johns was the guest speaker at a recent Rookie conference where he lectured young players on the pitfalls of sporting fame, and how your judgement is distorted after a few beers.
I think Carney has got off lightly, and he's lucky Matty Johns was there to calm him down, I hate to think what might have been the outcome if he hadn't been there.

Pathetic to see the knights management being dishonest about it, I see that issue as important as what the player did it.

If someone f**ks up the clubs should come right out and admit it, then deal with the player accordingly.

Rather then the current hush hush we'll brush it under the carpet regime most clubs adopt at the moment.

Can't believe how light Carney got off....just because the cops think the fine was alright the club goes along. What about the blokes last year that copped thousands of dollars in fines for the Bathurst thing. Bet they are feeling pissed.
Carney's near 30 and should know better. All he gets is a pathetic slap on the wrist.

That is EXACTLY what needs to happen Head in the sand stuff for boofheaded, overpaid players needs to be strongly reviewed and I don't care WHO the player is. Professionalism in the game is BADLY needed.

I think you're right Sir Knight82 -- there is a sense of a booze-culture at Newcastle. I get the sense from most other clubs too, except maybe Brisbane whose coach has made it clear he doesn't like the grog anywhere near his club.

I would like to have seen more done in this case -- as I said earlier it is a real disappointment that no-one bothered to brief Carney on the reason we were in the headlines this time last year. The bloke needs a bit of a wake-up call, and so does the club. There is no sense standing back and watching the jersey be dragged through the mud again.

I thought the Knights had made it clear they wouldn't have their name tarnished again -- I suspect even the club has forgotten what happened 12 months ago. Or perhaps Carney is too big a name to get rid of... makes you wonder doesn't it?

Geez! Talk about over reaction!

At one stage he had to be held down by bouncers and police.

They wouldnt just say "oi! he's a footballer lets pick on him"

I am sure that this will only be a one off, if not like I said I hope appropriate and quick action is taken.

So your calling for Carney's sacking, based on that?

It's hardly anywhere near the same league as indecent sexual assault.

Ofcourse he shouldnt be cut but some punishment should be issued.

Otherwise it isnt the best example to younger players in the club.

Were you there? You saw the whole thing? You've got video evidence that that's what occured? No way the media could beat it up is there?

If the police held him down, why wasn't he charged with afray or assault?

There was nothing about the police holding him down in the article I read in the Daily Telegraph just then.

Bouncers have never over reacted in any situations, have they? Can anyone say David Hookes?
