We’ve been lacking a mentor for our coaching team for years - good stuff. Does he know of a prop? How many NRL titles did he win ? whoops

First time I've been excited about a move in a long time, respect to the new CEO

Lots love to rag on Smith because of the lost Grand Finals, but the reality is he's been incredibly successful at building clubs and succeeding

Really good at rebuilding. Hopefully his first step is kicking Kearney out and recruiting people who arent just kiwis.

True on the last part, but, he did take St George to consecutive grand finals, and both Parramatta and Easts to Grand Finals. To me, getting to 4 GFs, with 3 different clubs indicates a good standard of success across different cultures. It's given him a lot of different environments to develop football knowledge in too.

I couldn't be happier with his appointment.

Interesting that he’s actually got the title of General Manager of Football....

And the way they talked about it they sounded like they were going to use him like an NFL or NBA style GM.

Where they are responsible for recruitment and contracts and handle the administrative stuff around the team and the coaches purely handle the football side.

The coaches have some say in the recruitment and retention but the majority of it falls under the GM.

The GM usually gives them the team and the coach has to deal with it

They are also responsible for hiring and firing the coaching staff....

I don’t know how much of an actual job this will be as a GM in the US usually has to also worry about far more detailed scouting departments and then oversee the draft... which is a massive undertaking....

I’m genuinely interested to see how this works out....

Motu came home to be part of that club - in a head of football or recruitment role. Was reported as such in recent weeks in Hull, Aussie and the NZ Herald.

He’s either lost out to Smith (he’s obviously not going to HoF) or there’s another role for him at the club.

I do. Motu is good people and a very savvy operator. He needs to be involved at the club long term.
He has a solid track record and it's good to see ex players involved in the club again. MT has The potential to move into a higher position at some stage. Not that it bothers me but would be good to see a Kiwi CEO again at the Warriors.
