Not sad to see the end of this bid, but I have an overwhelming image of the game shooting itslef in both feet and possibly endangering it's future by not expanding in the NRL and 2Nd tier simultaneously.

f**k the bombers heartless/Corprate bid bring in the dolphins or Ipswich which have history, fans community and you can still build a commercially successful team around. This is the whole point of bringing more attention and money to the state comps and too build further talent. PR's whole idea is go to a region bring in a team and throw money at till it works just look at the Western Force, Melbourne Rebels, GC Suns, GC united.

It's still good money after bad.
You can only do it for so long.Especially as other clubs (the wealthy) eventually get the jack of it.And they ATM are hardly thrilled with the equalisation policy.
Let's face it ,if the Lions continue losing money for another 10 years.the Suns keep marking time and GWS are still treated as nobodies, no organisation no matter how wealthy in their right mind would continue the same assistance.And I might add if your clubs continue losing $90m in toto.

The choices are between being prudent with money you have and forming a long term financial base with which to expand or spend money you do have, like confetti, and still having many of you clubs losing money.

The NRL own two clubs which they want to flog ,plus are owed money by two others.It is pure madness to make any expansion decision until the Tits and Knights are sold off.

The Bombers have made their bed, which is their right to do so.But when a Brisbane 2 enters ,they will have missed the boat.At least we won't get the silly name Bombers.

Easts are the red herring in this as the strongest financial club in Brisbane buying out the old Broncos Red Hill LC

Just adding Ipswich & Redcliffe sounds good to me - The brands are strong.. clear geographical supporter base.. would probably have to play at least some games out of Suncorp, but that makes sense as it's a great stadium that's way under-used.

The Jets would be pretty much fine to bring in "as is" - same colours, logo.. but Dolphins may need to tweak their colours to provide a point of difference in the NRL - similar to how Port Adelaide added teal to their SAFA colours to join the AFL & distinguish themselves from Collingwood. What third colour could they add to their strip?

I don't really agree with the idea of just bringing in a Qcup team from around Brisbane.. The Bombers assertion that 50% of Brisbane don't support Broncos may or may not be right, but why do people think those non-Bronco supporters will suddenly support Redcliffe or Ipswich. They are clubs with history in local comps and despised by most except there own fans, but people think because they aren't Broncos everyone will love them. Same with the Brothers bid, the only people who liked Brothers in the old BRL where Brothers fans. Whether or not you like what the Bombers offered, I think that the idea of a new entity that connects with the whole community, not just a satellite, and offers a new option in the Brisbane NRL market is on the money.

But have the Bombers pulled the pin? It sounds like they haven't completely pulled the pin, all they are saying is they won't be entering a team in Intrust Super Cup. They haven't ruled out entering a bid for 2023, there is no mention in this article of them quitting either.

Rugby league is considered the working class game. In fact alot of the Broncos support base come from Ipswich which is very working class. Affluent Liberals are more likely to watch the Queensland Reds then the Broncos. But because the blue collars jobs have gone down and the white collar jobs have risen those generalizations on which group watch which sport probably aren't as distinct as they used to be.

THE Brisbane Bombers have entered the race for the Titans’ licence armed with a $10 million bid to stave off the North Sydney Bears and keep the club on the Gold Coast.

The Courier Mail can reveal a Bombers consortium has begun due diligence into the Titans after contacting the NRL to formally express interest in buying the financially-stricken club.

The NRL last week officially placed the Titans up for sale, prompting Rebecca Frizelle to resign as club chair as she ramps up plans to purchase the club with former co-owner Darryl Kelly.

Frizelle and Kelly are red-hot favourites to clinch the Titans licence, while North Sydney represent a threat with a $7m bid aimed at reviving the famous Bears as an NRL identity.

But the Brisbane consortium has the financial muscle to blow rival bids out of the water.

The Bombers launched in 2011 with a view to becoming Brisbane’s second team to rival the Broncos, but with the NRL putting expansion on the backburner, they are keen to rescue the Gold Coast.

“We’ll be making a bid for the Titans licence,” said Bombers CEO Nick Livermore, whose late father Ross was formerly the boss of the QRL and a board member at the Gold Coast Chargers.

“We’ve contacted the NRL and formally applied to be part of the bid process.

“We’re currently looking over the Titans’ financials, we’re understanding the ins and out of the business and looking to see if we can add value to the club.

“Our motivation is growing the game and bringing stability to the Titans on the Gold Coast.


“My father was part of the Gold Coast Chargers, so there is some history and heritage which makes it a passionate pursuit for me.

“If the NRL decides there is someone better suited for the licence, that’s fine. But the Titans deserve an opportunity to thrive in the NRL and at the moment, through some unfortunate circumstances, that’s not the case.

“It takes time to heal wounds but hopefully we can make that happen.”

A four-man Bombers consortium is currently examining the financials of a Titans club that will lose an estimated $2.3 million this season.

Livermore praised the work of Frizelle and Kelly and said the Brisbane group had no plans to relocate the Titans.


While expansion is on the backburner, the Bombers hope the NRL will consider adding a second Brisbane team when the code’s next TV rights deal is brokered for the 2023 season.

In the meantime, the Bombers believe they have the finances, business plan and administrative acumen to resurrect the ailing Titans.

“Fans should not be concerned, we have no plans to move the Titans,” he said.

“It’s important that the Titans stay on the Gold Coast full-time.

“Ultimately, the Titans don’t need another rebrand. We’ve had enough name changes. They wouldn’t be the Gold Coast Bombers.

Oklahoma didn't have an existing NBA team, the bombers won't churn the existing Gold Coast fan base completely. They'll play some at cbus and some at Suncorp as they originally planned, hopefully represent the Logan to Helensvale corridor, massive growth there
