yes i think it will in all honesty for the reasons I've mentioned ie:

1. Adds a new live slot for either Fox or Ch9 on a Friday or Saturday night. Live games are always far more popular and Perth is the only place that can offer this as a new option for stations
2. If the TV station shows NRL in Perth then viewing audiences of 50-100k are very realistic. With our own team the profile of teh game will rise massively like in the mid 90's and more people will tune in to watch. That is greater than what most stations can draw on a Sunday afternoon in Perth.
3. Adds to the capital city Oztam ratings which are the ones that most people seem to use to judge the most watched programmes (by 2million+ a season which would put us ahead of AFL)
4. You need another two teams to add an extra round. We have already heard a rumour that Fox is willing to pay AFL $50mill a year for an extra live game a weekend. Whilst Perth doesn;t add anything in this aspect more than any other two teams, when you consider the other benefits to the rest of the comp and expansion of the game then it is a no brainer.

Is all that worth $5-6million a year? If we get a fair dinkum deal then yep I would say it would be.

Not a chance. Perth will cost money in the short term. The games will rate quite poorly in Perth just like all the other foreign clubs ie the Sydney Swans ratings in Sydney, Brisbane Lions ratings in Brisbane. They don't even bother showing Melbourne Storm games live in Melbourne. So how does a low rating team generate more money for the NRL? By the time new teams come in the club grant will probably be $5m or $6m.....will a Perth team increase a TV deal by more than that? If not it is costing money. I'm not saying Perth isn't a good idea, but more for the idea of spreading the game, rather than increasing the value of the next tv deal.

I've heard rumours that having a Perth team alone could bring an extra 20-50mil in the TV deal just buy having a team there.

Redlands in running as NRL team base

JOHN CLARK
04 Apr, 2011 12:00 AM
THE Redlands is about to receive a massive sporting boost, if it wins the race to be the home of the new Brisbane team to enter the NRL (National Rugby League) competition in 2013.

The head of the consortium behind the new rugby league team - multi-millionaire Craig Davison - visited the Redlands Junior Rugby League Club at Pinklands in Thornlands last Thursday to inspect fields and facilities and came away impressed.

"The facilities are good, and their overall master plan is fantastic. They've got a wonderful junior base and plenty of room for expansion," Mr Davison said.

Redlands is one of four sites shortlisted as a possible home base for the new rugby league club, the others being Dolphin Oval at Redcliffe, West End's Davies Park and another undisclosed site.

According to insiders, the southside has the preference because the northside is already covered by the Broncos.

Redlands Junior Rugby League Club is the second largest league club in Queensland with more than 700 players and is a growing catchment for players.

Redlands Junior Rugby League Club president Steve Gibson said if Redlands was chosen as the base for the new club it would bring enormous benefits.

"We had the Mayor there and she told me and Craig Davison that Redland City Council fully supports the presence of an NRL club here.

"If Redlands is chosen for the team, it will bring enormous benefit to the club and the area. Probably millions will have to be spent on an extended clubhouse, a new office, a new gymnasium and eventually new fields down the track," Steve said.

"It will be a major operation and create many jobs construction jobs and club staff.

"Plus being connected with an NRL team would strengethen our club's ability to develop our coaches and players, improve our onfield results and make Redlands a powerhouse in Queensland rugby league."
The go-ahead for a new Brisbane team is dependent on the consortium winning approval from the NRL.

Very positive local support....

You missed the last sentence:
"The go-ahead for a new Brisbane team is dependent on the consortium winning approval from the NRL."

Good to see planning underway for a possible Brisbane II team.

A sentence like this "THE Redlands is about to receive a massive sporting boost, if it wins the race to be the home of the new Brisbane team to enter the NRL (National Rugby League) competition in 2013." is lazy or bias journalism. The bid should be stated as entering the NRL in any year until its confirmed.

Wasn't a dig at your bid which you are so precious about, it was a dig at the journo.

Have a dig at the journo some other way and stop being so precious yourself.

From the bid Facebook page:

We will announce a major sponsorship coup in the coming weeks!
Keep an eye out for our automotive partner, major sponsor and a couple of cheeky announcements to keep the NRL on the hop as we aim up for a proposed July-tender process!!!

Yes boss
...
f**king wanker.
:clap:Way to prove yourself a weakling and a hypocrite.

It seems that you can hijack threads with irrelevent posts but no one else can. Your posts on this thread are once again negative (as are all your posts.) No surprise as the information and discussion threatens your beloved Bears.

Looking forward to your next installment of puerile, self important drivel.:sarcasm:

As for the bid, slowly gathering momentum for their July bid tendering target.

The sentence was ok, if poorly written. I bolded the important part.

They are starting to put the details together. If they have left the run too late will be interesting.

Doesn't matter if all my, or anybody else's, post on a particular subject are all negative or all positive, personal attacks are unwarranted.
