Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

Given how quickly they abandoned the Sunshine coast that does feel like it was a bit of furphy to justify bringing them in and appeasing Broncos that they wouldn't be targeting the entire metro.

Had a good chat with Dolphins CEO at HBF park and it was interesting talking to him about their brand success and how they deliberately decided to go for a more youthful approach to differentiate from Broncos and how its paid off with the number of kids and families who've become Phins fans.

Sounds like what gws ceo says about their approach.

all QLD vs QLD matches are derbies and Queenslanders will tune into any QLD team playing, whether its Ipswich, Central QLD, Sunshine Coast. Anyway I get that people want another existing old BRL team to be promoted, it makes for a good story.

Do have you tv numbers to support that?!

I see support for the Phins city wide, I'm only one person, but I live in Logan and I'm a Phins member.

There's no doubt they will always have a connection to the Northside as their training base and spiritual home is at Redcliffe. But they are definitely trying to be a city wide team.

I know manly fans who live at Penrith. Prior to entering league Redcliffe had large membership. I suspect a lot of those members carried through to today and a large number live in Morton Bay. Of course, real numbers would be better than guessing or personal accounts.

A team with no geographic base like that would be like wests tigers

No chance Pvl will accept it

Why would easts want to back a sw team that won’t take on their colours logo or history

I hope they run with that bid it’s no chance over Christchurch

On Suncorp availability the roar won’t be there long with crowds of 5k probably not the reds either
Few things that you’ve completely missed:
* Easts have already backed and joined a SW based bid before. Brisbane Jets (when Tigers Jets Bombers unified their single bids into one).

* Easts already sacrificed their brand and colours and history once with the Firehawks bid.

* Jets would base themselves in Ipswich but play predominately at Suncorp. 41kms between Ipswich Reserve to Suncorp. (Dolphins are 40kms from their HQ to Suncorp. Also Phins HQ to Kawana SC Stadium is 77kms).

* Jets would target all of SE QLD. Exactly how Dolphins have. This talk that Phins are a north Brisbane team is redundant and stupid, they’re not. They bloody hold footy clinics in south side suburbs too and a massive part of their fan base is located on the South side.

Now if none of the above had previously happened or is happening then fair shout, but truth is all the above is reality. So when you ask why, you should actually be asking when.

Your a strange one! Your advocating for a third Brisbane team in an area that you yourself have signed up to be a Dolphins fan in lol You are the epitome of why we dont need to use another license up in Brisbane for a very long time, if ever.
I've told you why Brisbane 3 is the best option... It grows the NRL. Crowds, sponsorship, TV ratings. They'll be a top 5 club even with diminishing returns. You can't say no to that.

Jets and Easts bids never merged, the talks quickly broke down and both stayed separate bids.

Still should focus on sw but the rest sounds good

2 current clubs playing in a 53k stadium. One avg's 31-39k the other just starting out with a 21k-25k avg. There really is no need for a third for a very long time. Both the current two have plenty of capacity for growth yet. Better if another Qnld club is to be looked at to aim for a population not yet being serviced by an NRL club.

Yeah they did. All 3 bids came together at the last minute after initially stalling in talks. It compromised of the Western Corridor, Brisbane Bombers and Firehawks bids coming together. It was too little too late. Plenty of things in rugby league don’t get reported on in great detail, you find out years later that’s how it played out.

Was that ever confirmed? Certainly the jets presented a stand alone bid to the NRL first week of September 2021.

incorrect, most Broncos games are sold out or very close to these days. Unfortunately the stadium member situation is preventing an average much larger than 40k

3rd team will be located in south west.

Yeh think you are right

It was ipsiwch and bombers who merged and east tigers went alone
Western Corridor and Bombers unified first. FireHawks agreed to join at the 11th hour.

Why wasn’t it reported? Covid shut down in QLD in 2021. A lot of things of this nature remained behind closed doors, a lot of Sydney journos weren’t here. The Brisbane journos of Badel and Dobbo didn’t push it.

Something as big as that and not one journo reported it?

Why would they? The Dolphins were officially awarded the licence the very next day. The media was already reporting that the Phins had won the license the day before it was announced. It wouldn’t have mattered either way, the ARLC decision was made weeks prior to that announcement (Phins).

Whatever the 3 into 2 into 1 individual bids did at the 11th hour wasn’t relevant anymore and as Torps declared a few months later at a get together, it was way too little and way too late and by that stage resembled something like a burnt pie on the edges yet still frozen in the middle. Shit happens.
